Florida Flight 2011-2012 Thread

In case anyone has not noticed, we, too, have left the CBL. No more franchise fees for us until there is a league worth giving that fee to - and at this point, such a league does not exist outside of the D-League! I figured we should start a separate thread until the formal announcement is made. FYI - we will be working closely with the TRBL. We'll be a separate entity, but announce our intent to work together via a formal partnership.

We are behind with making some very intriguing, exciting announcements. Right now, our focus has been on marketing the team and preparing for our upcoming 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Charity Basketball game.

This past weekend, we took part in the Avalon Park Christmas festival - Avalon Aglow, where we got to walk in community parade. We also launched our mascot Turbulence (Turbie for short), while handing out thousands of postcard flyers for the Toys for Tots game. We've already collected 40 toys, thanks to the 19 Sponsors we got on board for this event. A few people have been asking me how things were going, so I thought I'd post this update.

I'll leave you with a couple of photos from the parade! Enjoy! PS: The Night Train Bus (a party bus) will be transporting us this season. Boy are our players excited about that!

Glad to know you are still out there. I wish the Flight was a little closer and could participate in the TRBL, but I have hope that you'll find some partners for a Florida-centric league soon.

The folks at Avalon Middle School were kind enough to put in a hard-wire internet connection for us so that webcasting is never a problem anymore. It should be an exciting event. We had originally planned to bring in The Professor, who has a strong following in Orlando. Unfortunately, Ballup (the stronger, more polished, new version of the old And 1) scheduled a late phot/promo shoot, so he couldn't make it out. Instead, we've filmed a previously recorded interview with him, which we'll be showing at halftime. Former NBAers Greg Kite, and possibly Tree Rollins and another surprise Magic player may also be in attendance (end of the lockout threw a monkey wrench in that program), as well as Megan Clementi, host of Magic games and show (Magic Overtime).

19 Sponsors jumped aboard for this game. It should be an exciting event. You never can tell until game time though. No one can say we haven't been working our tails off to take this franchise to the next level and beyond. Here's a link to the event on our site.

The song is from The King's Offspring's latest CD, who will be touring from Florida to California this summer. I'm proud to say that we've been a platform for EVERYONE to pursue their dreams, not just our players. Two members of our staff will also be working the NBA All-Star game as well!

Oh - and a big announcement is approaching, hopefully before Christmas!

Flight Dedicate 2012 Season To Bithlo Community

The details will involve a partnership between the Flight, United Global Outreach and Orange County Academy, and will focus on raising funds for a much needed shuttle bus for the students of Orange County Academy.

In the final preseason game on April 28th, the Flight raised $410.00 in funds, but [Mark] King believes more can be done.

The Flight tip off in their regular season home opener on Saturday, May 12th at 5:00 PM against the Palm Beach Titans.
