Default Sacramento team nicknamed Mountain Lions

I like the name. They should be able to make a good logo with it.

Sacramento, your United Football league team that will kick off the 2010 fall season at Hornet Stadium in the state capital has a new name – the Mountain Lions.

The Mountain Lions was one of the most popular names suggested by sports fans in Sacramento through a ‘Your Town, Your Team, Your Name – You Make The Call’ promotion to name the UFL team, which ran on the league’s official website www.UFL-Football.com in association with Northern California’s Sports Station KHTK 1140 AM.
“Again we have listened to the fans of the UFL by selecting a nickname that proved most popular in an online vote to give one of our teams a strong and regional identity,” said United Football League Commissioner Michael Huyghue. “There were many suggestions and opinions for names with a local flavor and this proved to be the most popular and the most dynamic.”

Mountain lions live in many different types of habitat in California, from deserts to humid coast range forest, and from sea level to 10,000-foot elevations. There are an estimated 4,000 to 6,000 mountain lions in the state.

More possibilities than Redwoods, that's for sure.

Does'nt exactly roll off your tongue. Maybe the most syllables of any sports team in history. I count 8.

So I guess the UFL is only going with four teams again: Hartford, Vegas, Sac, Orlando.

Well their expansion allocation is April 15th and League meetings are April 21st. That's a lot to add in a pretty short time.

I hav'nt heard any serious rumblings of expansion teams.

There have been some news articles in the Omaha, San Antonio and I believe Salt Lake City media. Really not much, though.

I like the Sacramento Mountain Lions nickname. I just hope the UFL doesn't screw up the logo with something like last year's UFL team logos that in my opinion were lacking. Please UFL football uniforms that aren't awful would be a start. Let's Go Buffalo
