Quarterback E.J. Nemeth, a former Notre Dame High star who led the high-powered Trenton Steel offense to an 8-4 mark and playoff berth in the Southern Indoor Football League, signed with the Arena Football League's Utah Blaze Thursday.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder, who played his collegiate football at Sacred Heart, was named to the SIFL All-Star Second Team earlier. He is the third Steel performer to find a spot with an AFL club, as linemen Nate Tucker (Cleveland) and Melik Brown (Philadelphia) were signed Wednesday.
Nemeth had a superb season for the Steel, completing 246-of-422 passes for 3,169 yards and 70 touchdowns. He also rushed 81 times for 160 yards and 27 touchdowns, and was highly effective in goal-line situations.
"I really feel E.J. can really help an AFL team in those goal-line offensive situations,'' said Steel head coach Rod Miller. "With his size, he's excellent in that area.''
The Blaze, 7-8 and in second place in the AFL's National Conference West, still has a shot at a playoff spot. The ream has three games left, at Spokane Saturday, at home with New Orleans July 16 and at Cleveland July 22.
Yes.......yes they did. Nemeth was given a tryout a few years ago. The owners, Champion Sports and Entertainment (DeFalco and Hanratty) in their infinate wisdom, decided to go with Hanratty at QB instead. One of the biggest blunders indoor football history. Hanratty was also dir. of Player personnel. Look what Nemeth has done since then. Hes a stud, now an AFL QB and they opted for a dud, CIFL record hold for ints in a game. You know Sugar Bear, it was decisions like this, Defalcos test of character workout and subsequent ridicule if they couldnt match him, his ego, no advetising or marketing, did I mention his ego, second rate everything, all of which lead to the demise of the Revolution. I saw alot of low rent behavior from the Revs. They were in NJ for 4 years and unless you actually went to a game, no one in the surrounding area even know there was ever a team there. Speaks volumes, doesnt it. Frikin shame is the players, coaches and staff all sacrificed alot. Got to give them props for all they endured. They made the best of a horse crap situation. Frickin shame.
Were they the same Champion Sports Ent group that was doing something in the MMA world? I remember reading an article in Muscle Magazine, I believe it was, that was a while back though, not sure if it was the same ownership group. But I remember that group owned an arena football team and were expanding into the fight game, cause I remember saying to myself, wow, they could possibly use some of their big linemen "in the cage", that can get pretty crazy.

Yeah, they, Champion Sports and Entertainment, were attempting to start a MMA fight leage called the TripleFC. Defalco supposively had three pro kickboxing fights. Triple FC never was. It never came to fruition. They also started a mens and womens basketball team in the EBA-WEBA. Three sports ventures that all failed miserably, ok two, one never was. They were all billed on the CS&E website. The same prob happened with the basketball teams as the Revs. No promotion or marketing, NO MONEY. Went to a game, 5 people showed up. They played at County College of Morris in Randolph NJ. Seemed to have a problem with sponsors. I heard sponsors were promised alot, got mothing in return. Many not happy with CSE. Sad, it could have been something if they just put something into it, but major problem was they expected everyone to do everything for them for "FREE". They didnt have one paid employee in their company. They had the attitude like they were doing people a favor just to be involved.
