Quebec: Overtime, Kentucky, and Ball Hogs
Okay, so I'm new to the message board and maybe these items are covered in another thread but I recently began watching PBL online bc a college buddy of mine plays for a team. Checked out the Quebec/ Halifax game. Pretty decent game, went into OT...seems like both teams wanted the "W" but I couldnt help but notice that there were two primary BALLHOGS for the Kebs...watching/listening to the broadcast there were two players being called nearly the whole game. I can first-hand tell you that they have a great shooter in Callier (played with him and Mike Mercer in summer leagues) but the guys weren't showing him much love. Other than that the big men seemed to be lethargic under the rim; barely jumping and attempting blocks.
Also, seems Kentucky was unable to travel and were stuck in NY forcing a game postponed for Sat. against the Kebs....
And finally, Kebs website is pretty outdated and their FB page is in French..sooo, yeah, can't make out the latest news but according to Google Translate:
"PBL satisfies the overtime against Halifax if the trend continues the defeat dhier does not count and we will resume the extension on March 3 before the game in Halifax."
What does this mean? Defeat won't count?
So all in all, and through the posts that I've read on here thus far, the PBL seems like an interesting league...most talk on here is about the business side which is great insight bc Im a sport management grad student. Yea, it has its hiccups but it employs guys who have a love for the game of basketball and are able to provide for their families.

a) Callier was very good two years ago. He has not been very good since then. I suspect it is a combination of being slowed by injuries and the rise in the overall quality of the players in the PBL (guards in particular) just mean that he just isn't as effective as he once was. He also did manage to get 11 shots in the game which is not at all bad. Given how well Carl Mitchell was playing from the fourth quarter onward of that game I would have kept feeding him the ball and letting him do work.
I do hope that Callier can get himself back into form. I really liked watching him play when he was with Vermont and had a great season.
b.) I think you're taking google translate too literally. I suspect that what the copied and pasted section says is that the defeat won't matter if Quebec continue their strong play.

re: QUE at HAL OT
There may have been a protest in this game. At the start of OT (under NBA rules) team fouls are to be zeroed and penalty shot on the 4th, but in the QUE-HAL game this didn't happen - the team fouls stayed on the board. IIRC, HAL shot a s---load of FTs in the OTs ...
Perhaps QUE protested and this is the reference from the French translation referred to above ????

That also sounds likely now that I re-read it.

Thanks guys. Yea, injury has played a role in Calliers play...I'm still biased and say give him the rock more but hey.
Yea, not quite sure about the OT FT's...
Looking forward to joining more discussions.
Be Well.
