The Royal gym switcharoo: Rainmen scramble to find game
BASKETBALL
La belle province was anything but wonderful for the Halifax Rainmen last night.
Halifax's American Basketball Association franchise dropped a 120-116 decision to the host Montreal Royal after learning the game was switched to another venue.
Originally scheduled for the east end of Montreal, the game was played at John Abbott College on the West Island of Montreal, about a 30-minute drive away.
"They didn't even tell us the game site was changed until we showed up at the gym," Rainmen head coach Rick Lewis lamented. "Game-wise, we just gave this one away. We have to learn how to finish."
Brian Silverhorn, who missed the last three games with back spasms, led the Rainmen with 32 points. Lantrice Green added 27.
Halifax, which dropped its third straight and five of six, falls to 8-14. Montreal, ranked one spot behind Halifax in the league's rankings before the game, is 7-13.
Halifax is 1-3 on its current seven-game road trip. The Rainmen are off until a road game against the reigning ABA champion and top-ranked Vermont Frost Heaves on Feb. 7. Halifax is winless in four starts versus Vermont.
