Some interesting quotes from the article...

"We were told by D-League President Dan Reed that (the NBA) would not be in any formal conversation with us until we're no longer a member of the ABA," McCarthy said.

That should be easy..."Good Bye, Joe"

"When looking at possible expansion sites, the league looks particularly close at the ownership group, the market and the arena where the team would play, Reed said."

The ABA looks particularly close too...at the $10,000 market reservation check.

Is that the place that was built in 1915? Ho many people could that place even hold?

I'd say if Portland got a team they'd play at the Cumberland County Civic Center. It's the only realistic option.

That said, I find it interesting about the whole "we won't talk to you until you leave the ABA" thing. Kind of scuttles the classic "start in the ABA and parlay your experience there into a franchise in a better league" plan.

It's nice to know that the ABA CEO just got put in his place!

..the NBA isnt going to solicit teams from other leagues officially, though they did in the case of teh CBA.

I guessed they learned.
