How many players have gone from playing in the NFL (actually playing, not practice squad) to the indoor leagues/AF2 (not AFL)? I can only think of five:
Mark Jackson - WR Denver Broncos to IPFL Rocky Mountain Thunder
John Fourcade - QB New Orleans Saints to NIFL Mississippi FireDogs
Erik Wilhelm - QB Cincinatti Bengals to IPFL Portland Prowlers
Bam Morris - RB Pittsburgh Steelers to NIFL Katy Copperheads
Quincy Carter - QB Dallas Cowboys to AF2 Bossier City Battlewings

Its hard to imagine anyone going between the two leagues. The sports are so different. It amazes me that anyone has gone to the NFL out of that league or vice versa.

it is possible that many of these transition players have backgrounds in the spread and air raid offenses in college and high school. i would like to find that statistic.

Michael Bishop went from third string QB behind Bledsoe and Brady at New England to the CFL and AFL concurrently.
He then has played at least for 2 years full time in the AFL for Chicago Rush (I think) and then after the AFL finishes in the CFL for Toronto Argonauts. THis last year he started for both teams too.

Clayton Holmes - Dallas Cowboys to APFL Kansas Koyotes
Also former New York Giants LB Corey Miller was Head Coach for the NIFL's Columbia Stingers and actually played QB for one game.
Whoops, not AFL. yeah I got nothing.

BobG -- The Montgomery Maulers are NOT the Alabama Steeldogs! The Steeldogs were in the af2 from 2000-2007...the Maulers were in the NIFL that's all.

One of the bigger names that come to mind played for the Katy Copperheads in 2006.
Byron "Bam" Morris (born January 13, 1972 in Cooper, Texas) is a former American football running back who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Morris attended Texas Tech where he won the 1993 Doak Walker Award as the top running back in college football. Among other accomplishments while playing for the Red Raiders, Morris was ranked second in the nation in rushing yards per game in 1993.[1] He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 91st overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft (3rd round). His older brother Ron Morris played for the Chicago Bears.
During his NFL career, he would record 3,809 yards in 974 attempts and scored 35 touchdowns during 75 games. He also caught 103 passes for 790 yards and one touchdown. He played for the Steelers in Super Bowl XXX gaining 73 yards in 19 carries. He wore uniform number 33 for the Steelers.
In January of 2006, Morris was signed by the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League. The NFL reinstated his eligibility as a player on January 13, 2006. Morris quit Predators training camp the following day stating that he hoped to win a contract with an NFL team.
A mere two months later, on March 9, 2006, Morris signed with the Katy Copperheads of the National Indoor Football League.
