Global Basketball Alliance (GBA) Director Critically Injured!

(Atlanta, Georgia) (January 19, 2008)- The Global Basketball Alliance
, known as "the GBA", sadly announces that the Director of Team Development, Brian Combs of Orangeburg, South Carolina was critically injured in an automobile accident on his return home from a doctor’s appointment at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
”While I knew something was wrong when I did not hear from Brian that afternoon, I held out hope that something came up and I would hear from him anytime.” States Don “Moose” Lewis, Managing Member of the GBA. “Finally, after a few days, I received an email from Brian’s wife Stacy informing me of the accident. Brian was in a coma and she had not left his side but she thought he was going to fight through it-after all he had been in several active tours of duty in the Middle East.”
At this time, the GBA has had no further contact with the Combs family nor do we have any additional information.
Due to these tragic circumstances, the GBA has no alternative but to seek a replacement for Mr. Combs. Therefore, we now seek six Regional Director of Team Development positions who will report directly to the Director of Corporate Development in the GBA. The GBA is also releasing the Team License for the Orangeburg-Columbia, South Carolina market areas previously held by Mr. Combs. All of us in the GBA will keep Brian Combs and his family in our prayers and wish him a speedy recovery.
The Global Basketball Alliance, LLC, was formed as a "branded" professional basketball league to offer quality professional basketball at an affordable price to families and allow players the opportunity to stay in shape as well as showcase their talent in what has been called the “off-season”.
For more information on team licensee ownership, player tryouts, coaching opportunities, and other positions, please contact the corporate office.

there are many people out there brian was dealing with-and we have no way of knowing all of them. we have to get the word out-this is how. as crass as it seems, no one man is bigger than the entire equation-and for us to move, we need qualified people to fit in. if he called us tomorrow, he would have a place here. his wife knows how he felt about the gba and that was in her email-and she understands we have to go on-so it would be in good taste for you to NOT say what is appropriate since you did not know the family, their wishes, or their relationship with the gba. it has been 10 days since the accident=and we kept it under wraps before announcing open positions. it is a fact of life and business-truly-you are dazed and confused.

OK, good luck Moose.

I find this in very poor taste. No open job information or promotions of the GBA should follow such a release. This is quite frankly ridiculous.

Prayers to the Combs family.

My thoughts go out to the Combs family.

Dazed, I agree with you in that the announcement of a job opening should not go in a release saying one of the directors has been in an accident. If anything, a separate release should have been issued at a later time with the job announcement.

normally it would be 2 different releases, however, this was done with the blessings of the combs family. his wife said that when he briefly woke up before falling back in a coma, one of the first things brian mentioned was about the status the accident had on the gba-their wish was for us to continue and the announcement of the job openings was their idea to move forward quickly since i held back announcing anything hoping he would bounce back. quite honestly, no one has a right to say what should be done regarding the gba and the combs family EXCEPT the gba and the combs family. everytime the phone rings i hope it is them saying brian is awake again. his personality energized everyone he came in contact with-and i miss talking to him everyday.
you know, if you dont know the facts, have some class and just shut the h*ll up till you do find out the truth. you could have emailed me and asked why i did it. i would appreciate it that you only send out emails to brian@carolinasfury.com wishing him a recovery and save the banter and bs for a later time.

OK, I won't continue the exchange in any negative way. (Sorry, it initially stuck a chord with me. I probably should have PM'd.) Good luck to you and the Combs family.
