R/W/B ball........cool
3 D rule......cool
Basketball promoted as "entertainment"...cool
Vision for 100 teams.........cool
Salesmanship.........cool
Now, take these and build on them, don't be afraid to be labeled as "the Single A" league, fix the infrastructure/put more controls/assurances on the teams, execute what you promote, and STOP ATTACKING everyone publicly. It seems too easy to most of us.

Red White and Blue ball: Pointless.
Basketball promoted as entertainment: For the few who know teams in their respective cities even exist.
Vision for 100 teams: Delusional
Salesmanship: HAH!!!!!! <Removed by admin>!!! Oh wait, the salesmanship is good, almost too good since suckers still buy into this train wreck.

Well, i have to say that i was waiting for the tomatoes.
Your interpretation is certainly not unreasonable.
You won't even give me (them) the cool r/w/b ball?
The core concepts are good...I think that was my main point....execution? well, that's a different thread(s)(s)(s)(s)(s)(s)(s)(s).......

The tri-colored ball was a stroke of genius by George Mikan, the first commissioner of the original ABA. In my opinion, it was a major reason the league lasted through the first few years. I feel that way for a number of reasons, but one is that some very prominent NBA people ridiculed the ball-so they were talking about the ABA!
Also, and this is important, the ball is easy to see in dimly lit arenas. Almost every place the original league played was poorly lit. That is obviously true of many of the facilities being used by today's ABA. Fans could more easily follow the ball. Also, VERY IMPORTANTLY, the ball showed in the black and white photos in the newspapers.
I was beginning my career as a photojournalist during the hight of the original ABA's success and the film and lenses of those days were a very far cry from what is available today. Very few photos of basketball action make any sense to a viewer without the ball being visible in the photo. Those white panels made it possible to see the ball against dark backgrounds or dark ceilings (or empty seats).
Once they got used to the ball, many of the players also took a liking to the colors-particularly those who were good rebounders. Being able to easily see the rotation helped them to judge the caroms off the glass and get in position for more rebounds. A number of players personally told me that during interviews. (I did the writing and photography back then.)

While the original ABA (1967-76) was the first league to use a multi-colored ball, they were not the first to use a non-brown ball. The CBA's earlier incarnation as the Eastern Pro Basketball League (1947-78), offered teams the option of using either a brown basketball or a white basketball, depending on home team preference of use. Most teams used a brown ball, but there are instances of teams using a white or cream-colored leather basketball.
I'll give credit to the ORIGINAL ABA for the red, white and blue ball, but don't forget, in the minor league world, the USBL had been using a red white and blue ball for years before the ABA 2000 came around.

I'll give this a try. Props to the Vermont Frost Heaves for the Playon deal. A very good video webcast. From what I've seen it compares favorably with the CBA and D-League webcasts. It's not an ABA league deal, I know, but something that comes out of the ABA at least.

I'm sure Joe has some nice furniture in his basement office. Maybe some not even bought off the clearance shelf at Ikea.
Egg Mcmuffins sure are tasty.
It has some interesting rules.
Vermont is a decent organization.

To all, there is one good thing, that I know of, in the ABA.
Vermont Frost Heaves Organization
1) Very good players (2 years in a row)
2) Will Voigt, Exceptional Coach
3) Alex Wolff, Outstanding Owner and GM
4) Dedicated fans

I do like the frost heaves but I also think that Halifax is a solid organization and is better than the league. WE need a new coach but I think that we have a decent organization.

Well if someone told me that a league was gonna start up that....
- had a 10k entrance fee
- would let in teams from Mexico and Bahamas
- would have a team in China full of Chinese players flying teams in
- partner with Basketball Canada
- get minor league basketball talked about again
- have some teams give chances to female players, coachs and minority owners
- have 50 teams in a season
I would say "wow" that sounds great, that sounds exciting. Now remember that I said if someone told me as in......future tense. Before the ABA downward spiral began, I would have been positive.
Problem is Joe has stumbled upon a good idea and botched it up.
I mean President Kennedy had a good idea to go to the moon, but if he d***ed around and then in 1969 simply welded a VW to the top of an ICBM and expected it to fly to the mooon and back then he'd be a moron.
Joe has welded the ABA name to the top of his management skills and expects to go to the moon.

The Good Things of The ABA.
The ever so horrendous team names, logos and quality of websites from 99.9% of the teams.
Their business practices.
Its good the ABA was created so it can show how things should not be done.

R/W/B ball wasn't this ABA's idea in the first place.
1) Given me some good ideas for team names & cities for my Statis Pro league
(although I haven't used any yet.)
2) Some of the past better teams had the sense to jump leagues. Making
this a good audition ground for them.
3) Kudos to Vermont, Halifax, Orange County, Houston and A few others that
really tried to make it work.
4) Special mention to Vermont: Full houses, PlayOn, Decent uniforms, Played
games...Etc...

Nothing makes sense in this league.
NOTHING. No shoes, no sox, no money, but plenty of service (in Sinagpore)
