Taking a page out of ESPN with the NBA page, I am going to provide stats going much deeper than their efficiency page on JocTrack.

I know this is minor league basketball but first weekend concerns from a Scouting standpoint...

1. Shooting percentages are not very good. The Leagues True Shooting % is at 54.5%. The leagues FG% is 46%.
2. Approximate average of possessions is 106.5 per game.
3. These numbers will continue to flucuate over the next few weekends.

Definitely good to see that they have all of their stats up and tied into their website. They need to get the stories updated too, but they've got the most critical piece in place now.

Tough for me to comment too much on the numbers yet. They'll become a bit more meaningful with another weekend under their belt.

I am interested in player minutes though and some teams have them and some dont. I like to compare player percentages based upon minutes and time actually involved so that when you look at two players you have all of their insight.

I did call the PBL two months ago in regards to their stats and at that time had someone (turned out to be JocTrak) already lined up. I thought that was a good move, which is to tell the truth.

I've noticed, mostly with the ABA though, that home teams will under report the visitor's stats. Two games to be weary about are:

Arkansas vs Chicago--all non-shooting stats are vey low, including rebounds
Jacksonville vs Reading game--Jam's rebound totals are low, 2 steals to 29 TO?

The issue of minutes, visitor stats, and non scoring stats all comes down to the number of spotters and data entry terminals. I have observed that at the minor league level (outside of the dleague) generally there is one pc, one data entry person, and one additional spotter. (In some cases you are lucky to get this.) In those cases, some of the detailed stats become difficult to track accurately, even for an experienced statistician. So, while I don't condone it, I wonder how much we can count on the nonscoring stats in general in the minor leagues. Hopefully, those stats are at least reasonably close.

For what it's worth, I think the most under-reported statistic in basketball is probably the assist, especially for visiting teams. I don't know if its because everyone seems to have a different interpretation of an assist, or if its hard to spot because it happens only before a made shot, or something else.

In the D-II college conference I used to work in, there were some schools that gave out assists like candy and others that seemed like they would only give them out if you shouted to the stat guy on as you were running past the scoerer's table.

I learned to give assists pretty generously after the first game I ever too stats for where I recorded 4 assists in an game where the home team scored over 100 points. I heard a lot of guff from the players after that, but fortunately it was an exhibition game. I heard somewhere that there is typically an assist every other basket, and I try to follow that rule as close as I can.
