What's the story with this guy? Is he a player, a coach, an owner, a GM, or all 4?

Last year, he was the coach in Tijuana. I don't think he played.

In June, he leaves the Diablos to own a team in Minot, N.D.

Then in late June, he moves the team to Utah, because it is closer to divisional rivals and because Joe Newman thinks it is too cold in N.D.

July 1, a press release comes out that he is no longer working with the Utah team, and will be moving on to Mexico.

Sept. 2, a press release comes out of Tijuana stating that Timmy Gibbs will rejoin the Diablos as a player/assistant coach.

October 11, the Jacksonville Wave (who don't play in Jacksonville), name Timmy Gibbs as GM.

What's the deal?

By the way, it's Monday (again!!!) and still no ABA schedule.

Hmmm...

(1) Joe Newman probably thought that the fourth largest town in North Dakota would be, oh, the population of Chattanooga rather than Twin Falls, Idaho. Check that, Twin Falls is growing.

(2) That being said, the team would have made more money in Minot than in Salt Lake... presuming this is all on the up and up, of course.

(3) That's like the only press release to come out of Tijuana since the end of last season. I think this would be a prime indicator of another team that presently doesn't exist.

(4) The next person who simulates Joe Newman's announcement of Gibbs as GM of the Whomever Wave will be beaten like the deadest of horses until morale improves. I have substantial evidence, of course, that morale never improves when the beatings are applied (there's a political message in there somewhere).

(5) Wanna bet there's no actual Wave?

(6) I have this hypothesis that the more teams Newman announces, the less likely it is that there will be a season. Usually, a league with national scope attracts at least one national sponsor, depending on the sport and the business plan. Sounds like Newman's scheme was to add so many franchises that it would actually look like it was too large to ignore. I don't see it happening. I see a lack of a league schedule a month away as evidence of a problem or two. I notice that the Bellevue website shows a road game at Fresno that the Fresno home schedule doesn't acknowledge and I start to think, well, there's going to be a modification or 20... and that's being generous to them.
