Has there ever been a pro boxing league? Would people pay to watch boxing based on a team concept?
Each team would have a heavyweight, walterweight, and a bantam weight fighter.
What do you think?

I can't remember where I read about this, but I swear someone put together a league a few years back and failed miserably. The hardcore boxing fans might watch it, but what casual fan wants to watch a bunch of nobodys fight? Plus, the schedule would take an entire calendar year under pro rules. I can't see anyone in their right mind willing to get their brains beat out weekly. Most pro boxers tend to fight maybe twice in a calendar year. Even UFC fighters only fight a few times a year and that sport could be less life threatening than boxing. Although I will concede boxing does need something to shake it up. For the casual fans, the Klitchsko's (sp?) are not the best bang for your PPV dollars. The first innovative idea I saw was Thunderbox. Only problem with that is there were no boxers I had ever heard of on it and they didn't make people care about the boxers. If Vince McMahon had run it, people might have been able to watch boxers nobody had heard of because Vince would've made sure they had some semblance of personality.

Thunderbox was a made-for-tv event that featured "up and coming" fighters. It I think existed two "seasons" and was built on a standings system. Each fighter was an individual, but theoretically he could win the league by winning a certain number of fights. It mixed hip-hop music, dancing girls and boxing. It was a terrible show. Essentially it seemed like it wanted to be the WWE except with boxing.
