Handball is fairly popular in Europe.

Checked out the fore metioned website among others and it looks like the popularity of team handball is growing in the US.
I think a pro league could work in time. I would start out small (regional) and than expand as needed. I did find some footage and the game looks exciting.
I also think that if the game field were reduced so that it could be played on a basketball court it would be a great assest.
