This from Ballpark Digest.com:
"Jackson City Council debating lease for South Coast League team
Posted Dec. 21, 2007 City Council members went into executive session this morning to discuss amending a lease at Smith-Wills Stadium to lure an independent South Coast League team to the city. The SCL is currently comprised of five teams, and a Jackson team would fill the league to six teams in 2008. Obviously, there's the issue of putting an independent team into a venue in the same market as the Mississippi Braves (Class AA; Southern League). Smith-Wills Stadium was formerly home to Class AA and independent Central Baseball League teams."

Putting a team in Jackson does seem like a risky move.
Will they get much fan or financial support with an affiliated team already in place.
I did notice that the stadium they would be in looks to be an upgrade from anything currently in the league. But if it is empty what good is it ?
Better be a sweet lease agreement.
Are there no other towns with a decent park in the Southeast?

Gosh, all you have to do is 'Google' the stadium name. Its not that hard. I'm sure there's more info out there. Doesn't look bad to me.

Gosh,aw shucks, gee willickers , I just don't know if they could pull any fans or corporate sponsorship in a town that already has affiliated ball .Don't really matter how nice the stadium is if no one is there to watch or support the team .
Gosh !

Smith Wills is a good stadium for a indy league team. The park is city owned, but is run by a management group that includes the people who owned the AA Mets, AA Generals and the Senators.
They will have to put a winning product on the field. The Sens last year they only avg 850 people a year, but they stunk that year. As long as they don't believe they are competing against the MBraves, they can be viable.

I like Jackson and it's stadium for a new team. Only time will tell if it will work. My only concern is the travel....it is a long bus ride from South Carolina to Mississippi.
But anyway.....
Welcome Jackson to the SCL:-D !
