The other night I watched the last home game ever for my Montreal Expos and it got me thinking. What NHL teams may suffer the fate of my Expos when the lockout is over? I see Pittsburgh and Carolina as possible teams that could be doomed. Does anyone figure these teams will just fold or will they be moved to other cities?
I'd personally like to see Winnipeg and Quebec get teams. Quebec is a little more sketchy as they isn't a new arena there. In Winnipeg there's the new MTS Centre, if the lockout progresses into January and such, I might have to take a trip to Winnipeg to see the MTS Centre and the Moose.
My other question is who's benefitting from the lockout? I think the European hockey fans are as the NHL has essentially moved to the other side of the pond. I also think the clubs in Junior hockey are benefitting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read in one of the Calgary papers that the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior League had scalpers out to their games in 1994. The AJHL is one step below the CHL, yet hockey fans were so starved for any sort of hockey, they packed 2,500 to see low calibre games. Wonder if the Hitmen make a Memorial Cup drive whether the "Red Mile" will be as nuts?
