I wonder how competitive the Mexican National Team is? Even during the pre-season would they beat any CHL team, let alone the defending champions? Does anyone know anything about hockey in Mexico? Is there a national league? For that matter are there many rinks in Mexico?

Mexicao has has 11 mens teams. Most are located in Mexico City. The caliber of play is that of a US College team. They do have a National Team, but they usually play in the real lower brackets against teams like Costra Rica, Brazil etc. The mens teams have 3 leagues that they compete in. However, none of these teams would be considered Professional, and I do not think they could compete on any level of Professional hockey in this country. However it makes good press and at one time the old WPHL (now the CHL),actually played a couple games in Mexico and had thoughts of placing a WPHL team in that Country. One of the major problems they had, was that it was so hot outside, and the arenas were not all that good, that it caused FOG, and the ice to get soft on the inside of the building. They gave that idea up.

I know in 2000-2001 the Mexican National Team played against Life University a DII ACHA team who had won the ACHA National Championship a few years in a row. Life had put a beating on them in back to back weekend games, something like 14-0 or 13-1. I know the article said that the Mexican team is a young program but hopefully they have made leaps and bounds past what they were, because the CHL can really put a hurt on them and possibly emabarass them.

When did this happen, and what team or teams played in Mexico? I've been a fan of the WPHL and CHL pretty much it's whole exsistance and never recall any team playing a team from Mexico. There was a Russian tour in the first couple of years of the WPHL, but never with any other country. This would be the first against a Mexican team. Now there have been talk of a CHL team being placed in Monterrey Mexico, but that hasn't been finalized. The FOG and soft ice you speak of was a problem for most barns down here in Texas, but has been sinced fixed.
Please post teams and dates of the Mexican team vs. WPHL team game.
Thanks

They never played a team from Mexico. They played an exhibition game in Monterrey Mexico. However the ice got soft because of the humid building, poor cooling system and then the fog came. The plans on placing a team in Mexico were scrubbed.
