As your next ABA CEO, I pledge to:
1. Shorten the season to 20 games.
2. Reduce the number of teams.
3. Regionalize the league to cut travel costs.
4. Centralize lease negotiations, guarantee weekend dates, and insist the home team pay it's rent upfront before we grant a franchise.
5. Establish uniform, well, uniforms, from the league office, so there are no more rec. uniforms for a supposed "minor league."
6. I would BEG Paul to keep the ABA on OSC, mainly to amuse him.
7. I would fire the nonsense deals. I can send a detailed list of how to do game ops for each team. If they can't do them, they don't deserve a team.
8. Evaluate each team to see if they DESERVE to stay in the ABA. Shoddy game ops or other problems and the team is gone.
9. Change the operation rules. The President (representing the ownership) and ONLY the President writes and deposits checks. That means for the first year in my regime, the President MUST travel with the team. This is to build bridges of trust with local businesses.
10. Eventually expand southeast with credible groups.
11. Only allow the franchise fee after a region is set with enough teams. Refund of 85% of rent to the team as a condition to minimalize risks to team ownership groups.
12. Each team has a "sub-league" of 4-6 teams under them to keep a player pool for emergency call-ups.
13. Do not rule out multiple teams in each city, to split rental costs and get more dates.
14. No logo is BETTER than sucky logo.
15. Team must run professional website or I charge through the nose to run it for them.
16. Teems dat puut ut sorrry pres releezes orr saiys "bIg announzment comin sooon" will be immediately disbarred.
17. After one year, work to see if the NBA is willing to partner and post scores on NBATV.
18. I will NOT bash LEGITIMATE leagues like D-League, CBA, and IBL (and hopefully PBL). In fact, my new ABA will have a constructive relationship with all of these leagues.
19. Fire the entire ABA staff. Better to do it upfront.
This league has to take several steps back to go forward.
I have yet to decide on changing it to "extreme" rules like 4 on 4 and stuff like that.
I charge $10,037 per team. I'm just that special. I need the money to build a new basement office.
