ABA OPENS THE 2007-2008 SEASON SUCCESSFULLY
http://www.abalive.com/news/releases/?newsid=2007110506001
"This season, rather than posting stories about the individual games on the ABA web site, the scores will be posted and we will direct fans to the teams' web sites for the game recaps and game statistics," added Hester. "We will post the standings and league leading statistics (and maybe others) on the ABA web site as well as other stories about the teams and our various partners and associates."
I love when the ABA makes it sound like they did something last season, that they never did - at all!
The ABA never posted comprehensive stories about ABA GAMES. ABA coverage by the league office itself was next to zero. They never wanted to do the work!
The only way fans learned about the games, was through team or media releases that were posted here at OSC.
Direct fans to the team sites?
I hate to inform you ABA ... But YOUR teams don't update their websites with enough info needed to capture fan attention!
Game Recaps ... Come on. How many of these teams have proper PR staffs who are dedicated to producing a proper game recap? You should have made it a mandatory for teams to release post-game recaps ... and they should appear on the ABA website ... as well as their own team sites.
With a few exceptions, YOUR team sites, or lack of one, are right now, a disaster.
GET REAL ABA!
The truth of it is ... The ABA does not have control over its member teams, and therefore, the teams, are not going to comply with submitting stats to the league, nor will they attempt to comply with game day procedures, and provide those stats to opposing teams, the media and the fans. It's already happening this season, and it's only the first week.
The JocTrac initiative failed ... and the league has not come up with an alternative ... except for this crazy press release about posting 'league leading statistics.'
Again the truth of it is ... The ABA was unprepared, once again, for another ABA season!
I feel sorry for all the basketball players in the ABA ... You guys deserve a league that has leadership and who are really interested in your benefit, right now, and for the future. You guys are being (mis)represented and (mis)led by a bunch of amateur league executives!
