Yeah, I am a big fan of the ABA. I want the league to do well(because my site goes down the toilet if the ABA folds!). However, I'm not blind. And, on this move, there is very much to be critical about.
#1.) There is already a team in the Atlanta area! I thought the 10k was for territorial rights? If it is, there shouldn't be another Atlanta team!
#2) 1 ABA team is enough! This isnt a situation where there are ample venues and ample fans, such as Southern Cal., where there are "supposed" to be 3 ABA teams for the 05-06 season(OC,LA,Long Beach). The Hawks have not been drawing fans lately. A team in Gwinnett County, could work. 2 Atlanta ABA teams is too many.
#3) The ABA needs to shore up its other teams. Native America looks really bad right now. St. Louis has been quiet recently, as have orange County, Los Angeles, harlem and a few others. Those need to be checked into before adding more teams.
#4) There's about, what? 80-90 days before the season? That's not enough time!!!
All in all, here's how I feel about this 2nd Atlanta team.
      Angry, and sick![/b]

I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but I just can't see any way this is anything other than a VERY bad move.

I hate to say it, but I believe its about the money. Who is going to profit from it and who is going to lose from this whole thing.
Joe Newman - the winner, money in is pocket
Minor League Basketball Fans - the loser, again...

I have some more bad news for my ABA-loving friends. In the Tampa Bay release, Tracy Carr is described as an Atlanta lawyer, and Lisa Van Wagner is described as an Atlanta lawyer and sports agent in connection with both the Gwinnett and Atlanta franchises. I have just contacted the Georgia Bar Association, and , guess what? Neither Tracy Carr or Lisa Van Wagner are listed as members of the bar in the State of Georgia.
Things like this anger me because in Nashville, i am in frequent contact with a team management group that I KNOW cares first and foremost about credibility. If I had children, I would want them to be like the young people in charge in Nashville. This BS sticks to people I care about, and IT MAKES ME MAD!!!!!!!!
And Nashville is not the only franchise that I think has excellent potential; there are about a dozen well-managed franchises in the expansion group.
But I'm beginning to think the ABA would be better off if the whole Atlanta area were banned from participation.

I hope SOMEBODY gets the mess in Atlanta cleaned up very quickly.

Maybe if they're going to have two Atlanta-area teams, they could have the same moron who writes Gwinnett's press releases write Atlanta's as well. They might get a grasp on written English twice as fast that way if they're forced to crank out absolutely crap, barely-grammatical press releases every day for a while.
This is a typical stupid ABA move all the way around. Spun like it's the greatest thing ever. At least each team's travel budget just went down quite a bit. They'll probably have to drive their own cars to the games or take MARTA.

Sam, I have been highly critical of the releases coming from the Gwizzlies from the very beginning but I have never questioned the intellect of the writer. Someone, possibly the person issuing the press releases, is using very poor judgment allowing someone who is terribly unqualified to do an important job. Whoever is writing these pieces of garbage may well be an otherwise intelligent person quite capable of doing well in other areas.
I do question how this franchise can succeed if the person in charge, again, possibly the person writing the releases, is unable or unwilling to recognize that the person and the job are completely mismatched.

Just saw the Gwizzlie press release about the Martin Luther King holiday game; I am pleased to see that our team will be the Gwizzlie's opponent, and this is appropriate, because with our history-making 22-year-old female coach, we represent what Martin Luther King was all about- opportunity based on character rather than stereotype.
HOWEVER, WILL SOMEONE TELL THIS BOOB THAT OUR TEAM HAS A NAME, AND THE NAME IS THE NASHVILLE RHYTHM?

Lesson #1: How to spot a bad sports organization
Just read their press releases...and I'm not talking about grammar. Read them and comprehend. If you have not received your schedule yet, then how do you know you will be playing Nashville on or around MLK's birthday at the Arena of Gwinnett?

Because you submit your dates to the league. I'm sure something such as the King Day ballgame would have already been OK'd with the league.

True. Teams have subitted a list of confirmed, available dates for their buildings, and I would think that if a specific date was requested, there is no problem with the league approving it on the schedule.
I know we (NJ) have a working idea for our home dates; we submitted up to 25-30, but can confirm probably 15 of our 18 desired dates (the last couple are contingent on scheduling other teams, back to back games, extended travel, etc.).
We could announce our home opener, but since we don't know who we are playing, why rush it?
Of course, we have an arena, so we know our dates. Those teams that don't have a confirmed place to play may be looking at middle schools or parking lots, I suppose; or, they can challenge visiting teams on Xbox or pop-a-shot games at a local bar.

Same lesson (continued):
If it was THAT simple, then the ABA would have a schedule by now. Who is to say YOUR available home dates are not the same as everyone else's available home dates in your division? In that scenario, someone would have to make adjustments--possibly lose some dates.
The kind of announcement Gwinnett made was WAY too premature.

I don't see a problem here. Gwinnett lined up this date and arena some time ago. I imagine they contacted Nashville and asked if the Rhythm would agree to be the opponent. Nashville probably has plenty of home dates available and said "yes". That seems simple enough. Trying to do that for 18 dates might be a major undertaking. If the league doesn't come up with a schedule soon, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see more of the teams that are ready scheduling some games on their own so they can get busy promoting specific special night such as this.

What's the word on the Rot's? Their biggest fan in Asia needs to know. Are they really going to play in Forest Park? Is there any media coverage being given to them?

Can someone tell me why when you log on to the Los Angeles Stars web site it takes you to a Moose(we all remember him) Lewis web site? Just asking

Sorry, meyes...one very good indicator of intelligence is the ability to communicate in written and spoken English. You can try to blame the supervisor putting this person in charge, but that doesn't change the fact the "writer" obviously doesn't have written English in his or her skill set.
And if you're older than 10, that makes you less than what I would call intelligent.

To micro67;
Don't know about other activities, but the Rotweilers owner (a Kentucky resident) has contacted me about Thunderstix for their fans, so this group is not completely inactive.

Actually not true. The listed site for the LA Stars on the ABA website is www.lastarsbasketball.com; however, you might be better off if it linked to Moose Lewis; when you click on the website ,it shows the domain is reserved, and the content is "coming soon". Hope the content is there in time for the ABA season.

The Gwinnett Gwizzlies don't exist as a sports organization anymore. They won't be playing Nashville (or anyone else for that matter) on or around MLK's birthday at the Arena of Gwinnett.
I rest my case. :?

Ken,
What is your source for this intelligence about Gwinnett? Have looked over the site for some sort of announcement, and didn't see any; the Gwinnett website has actually ADDED content since I last checked it. However, I DID notice that one of Gwinnetts "highly touted" players, Sam Cox, now plays for the Reigning Knights of Georgia.
A big reason for my concern is that Gwinnett is scheduled to play the Rhythm in Nashville on November 20 and 21.

Remember all the big to-do about how much they just loved the name Gwizzlies (it was a---wink, wink, nudge, nudge--typo that they liked so much they decided to keep) and now a week before the season starts, they change it.
Nice.
