Could A new World Football League be supported by Sports fans?

Well, it would be neat too see, but I can't see it being comparable to the NFL. I could see the WFL as an Indepedent Minor league, but that is about it.

I would be all about it. I wonder if anyone has any stuff from the old Hawaiian Islanders franchise. If so, please PM me.

I would love a new football league. I really enjoyed the Breakers when they were in Portland. To have a hometown team to support and see in person really makes the experience much more intense.

So what exactly would make it a WFL rather than a USFL?

Fall schedule?
Ridiculous color schemes (Magenta & orange?????)
Folding midseason?

Give me a USFL style spring league any time over the WFL.

But, not going to happen. The XFL killed it at least for 10 years.
You would need a major NFL strike with maybe the Players Assoc.
agreeing with rival league to supply players. Otherwise the NFL
will just exert so much pressure on tv networks to make it impossible.
(Pressure CBS, FOX & ABC/ESPN so that no coverage given on news, or
league always ridiculed on Sportscenter.)

More likely we will see a rise in Arenaball exposure or the NFL Europe
eventually becoming a version of NFL2.

While I agree that a new USFL would be much better than a new WFL it still irritates me to see the "NFL pressure on the media" conspiracy going on. The NFL doesn't need to put pressure on the media to under-report new football leagues, the nations sports reporters already hate reporting on anything that doesn't have the letters NFL in its name.

The NFL came very close to paying a heavy price for interfering with another league in the USFL lawsuit and learned their lesson, since then they either ignore or support rival leagues. Depending on how they percieve them, as a complimentary league or a rival.

They ignored the XFL, even with deliberately provocative XFL antics as well as countless self-inflicted reasons to ridicule them. They'd do the same with anybody else.

Good point WFM, the NFL actually lost the lawsuit to the USFL but the problem was damages were awareded at 1 dollar. THe USFL appealed and the damages were then raised...........3 dollars!!

They had signed a bad tv contract and switched from a spring to a fall league so the jury left them out in the cold financially but the lawsuit still was won by the USFL.

I think a minor league system will be adopted by the NFL utilizing North American teams once the owners get tired of losing NFLe money. The Canadian Football League which is on very good terms with the NFL is the smartest option in my opinion.

As far as the new USFL goes, where would the teams be?

Ditto for the new WFL. :?:

There are many cities that could hold WFL teams, I've made a list of 10 below.Of course, many are NFL cities or close to their locations, but it wouldn't be playing during their season anyway.
East West
New York City Los Angeles
Louisville Portland
Akron Salt Lake City
Detroit Phoenix
Birmingham Chicago

Paul S, why would you say the NFL will create a Minor league? As much as I would like too see some sort of Minor League system in this country, it isn't going too happen because the NCAA is the NFL's Minor League system and it costs the NFL nothing too operate.

As for the NFLE being too costly, I think you are going too see more support now then you did before. Barcelona was the only team that was REALLY hurting bad financially (Amsterdam I beleive is not doing great etheir) but now the team has relocated in Colonge, Germany and I have a hunch that the team will be more supported their then it is in Spain. I think in Europe, Football is a nothern sport. Mediterainian countries are more interested in other things, or Soccor if its sports related. We will just have too wait and see this upcoming NFLE season too see how 4 German teams do.

Also, I would like too add that unless the NCAA just folds or something, Indoor Football will probably be the closest America is ever going too get too actual Minor leagues in Football. NFL2 is probably most likly a pipe dream
