Anybody heard if South Carolina will have a team in any indoor leagues this coming season? I know we have the Florence Phantoms, but any word on a replacement for the NIFL-ruined Columbia Stingers?

Unfortunately, the terrible NIFL experiment has probably burned the market for at least a year or two. Maybe next time the building management can do a little research first.

Well, as I understood it, the management of the Colonial Center claimed to have done some research with the people in Greensboro and said he was satisfied that it was a good business decision.
Maybe it's not the research that needs done, but the researcher that needs replaced???? ;)
Thanks though, I appreciate the help!

They absolutely should have looked into it further. I know some local people cautioned the Colonial Center that it was a bad move, and Joe Person detailed the problems with the Stingers ownership in an article in The State. Their lack of due diligence cost many people.

Are the Carolina's even a market worth looking at any more?
From the multiple failed arena teams on down seems
like they just dont support indoor/arena FB - inept ownership
or not.

Columbia would have. They have a pretty new, very nice building, and I think even the Stingers' poor effort generated some initial excitement. But once the fans saw the team was using a borrowed field and found out about how things were operating, they stayed away in droves. The arena in Charleston is prohibitively expensive. Greenville could work again, I believe. Florence may just be a questionable market.

I was contacted once last season by someone from the local newspaper. He was amazed with the stories I had to tell about Dayton.
I don't suppose anyone in Columbia bothered to call Dayton before the season started...

Maybe you could look into whether the proposed XIFL [www.xiflfootball.com] and its Charleston Broncos are for real.

Take off the ]/ from the link when you click it, and you get a working page.
Doesn't make the league any realer though...

MLM is exactly right. And don't diss the Carolinas. There IS a market if there were legitimate groups running it in arenas the right size. Problem really are unprofessional groups trying to skate by and cut corners on indoor football. (Asheville has had two examples, the IFL All-Star Game and the AIFL disaster.) They did make it more difficult for the Carolinas, though, no doubt about it.
