Travel is no trip down the highway...

Also Chicago/Arkansas/Dallas, we barely know anything about these teams, so Im sure people in those cities have never even heard "PBL Franchise" EVER!

Im surprised MN Ripknees are an expansion team now, at least people had heard of them.

Well its mid-October, tip off is Jan.4

Chi/Ark/Dallas have a little more than 3 months to get the ball rolling!

This league is going to live and die on its ability to manage travel... each team has at least one (kind of) fun trip...

Arkansas
Sat. 01/26 at Rock River 7:05 p.m. (cst)
Sun. 01/27 at Dallas 3:00 p.m. (cst)
But wait, there's more...

Chicago
Thu. 02/28 at Reading 6:35 p.m. (est)
Fri. 02/29 vs. Maryland 8:00 p.m. (cst)
Doesn't look rough? Sure, as long as it doesn't snow on I-90 that night. :)

Dallas
Sat. 01/26 at Quad Cities 7:00 p.m. (cst)
Sun. 01/27 vs. Arkansas 3:00 p.m. (cst)
Maybe Arkansas and Dallas can meet up in Illinois and sprint down to Dallas together... :)

Jacksonville
Fri. 01/04 vs. Rochester 7:30 p.m. (est)
Sat. 01/05 at Reading 7:00 p.m. (est)
From Jax to Reading overnight in January? Ouch.

Maryland
Thu. 02/21 at Rochester 7:05 p.m. (est)
Sat. 02/23 at Arkansas 7:00 p.m. (cst)
Sun. 02/24 vs. Rochester 4:00 p.m. (est)
Two days to get from Rochester to Little Rock, and then less than 20 hours to get back to Maryland? This is the weekend they may actually miss the ABA...

Quad Cities
Fri. 01/18 at Arkansas 7:00 p.m. (cst)
Sun. 01/20 at Chicago 3:00 p.m. (cst)
Thu. 01/24 at Rochester 7:05 p.m. (est)
Sat. 01/26 vs. Dallas 7:00 p.m. (cst)
QC doesn't play for 12 days after that long march... they'll need the rest.

Reading
Sat. 02/09 vs. Rochester 1:00 p.m. (est)
Sun. 02/10 at Jacksonville 3:00 p.m. (est)
Fri. 02/15 at Jacksonville 7:30 p.m. (est)
While the sprint from Reading to Jax isn't necessarily fun, the 5-day Florida layover between games probably makes it more palatable...

Rochester
Sat. 02/09 at Reading 1:00 p.m. (est)
Sun. 02/10 at Maryland 4:00 p.m. (est)
Wed. 02/13 at Wilmington 7:00 p.m. (est)
Fri. 02/15 at Chicago 8:00 p.m. (cst)
It comes as no surprise to this reporter that Rochester doesn't really have a bad trip... this 6-day excursion is about as rough as it gets for the co-founders.

Rock River
Fri. 02/15 at Arkansas 7:00 p.m. (cst)
Sun. 02/17 at Maryland 4:00 p.m. (est)
Mon. 02/18 at Rochester 4:05 p.m. (est)
"How I Spent My President's Day Weekend" -- in a bus...

Wilmington
Fri. 03/07 at Jacksonville 7:30 p.m. (est)
Sun. 03/09 at Dallas 3:00 p.m. (cst)
Thu. 03/13 at Reading 6:35 p.m. (est)Talk about an easy season - this one of two trips west of the Eastern time zone (their other is a one-game weekend at Rock River), and their central location on the East Coast makes their trips more manageable.

Travel does not look good...

Nonetheless, I will save my judgement for after the season.

Considering the footprint, the schedule doesn't look bad. There's obviously going to have to be some flying, which isn't surprising, although further expansion in 2009 should help minimize it. I'm a little surprised that Minnesota has been pushed back a year, but it's good to see the schedule out there. Now teams can get to selling, although the Aztecs, Defenders, and Impact obviously need to get their websites up.

...and can book travel for long in advance is where the savings are. To be frank, it almost doesn't matter where these games are compared to cancelled games on short notice, re booking trips, etc.

If you can book airfare far enough in advance, it is much cheaper than a bus, especially when corporate discounts have been negotiated. This schedule is a breeze as far as away travel, even with a few zig zags.
