I would also like to know the source of this information, according to Chardale. What sights besides Oursportscentral will have news??

Wikipedia is usually pretty fast with franchise moves. AFL website may not
be as fast.
Also check Cleveland.com for updates. -- As of 10/10, nothing new...
last we heard..."Kosar is interested in bringing A.F.L. franchise to
Cleveland". It could be waiting for Monday's football page.

I could go on wikipedia right now and state that the Dallas Desperados were moving to Cleveland.
Would that make it true?
Wikipedia is no more reliable as a source than this message board... unless you can cite a source...
For late breaking news, this site, and ArenaFan.com are usually best for AFL news.

This move was posted repeatedly on Arenafan and the AFL message boards over the last couple of weeks.

I have lived in Las Vegas for over 10 years now and have scene my share of half baked minor league teams come and go. The Gladiators are just another chicken sh-- team with a chicken sh-- owner who comes to town with this grand plans, spends as little as possible on the team, gets no fan support because of a bad product and them goes running for the hills in a few season. So Jim Fearro take your team and shove it

Heres your story:http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2007/10/arena_football_league_coming_t.html
I was kind of hoping they would keep the name...Pittsburgh did have an
A.F.L. team named the Gladiators once though.
Hope this one fairs better then the Thunderbolts did.

According to Bernie Kosar, they are tentatively the Gladiators, but plan to hold a poll asking the fans whether to keep Gladiators or switch to a new name (probably Bulldogs)
My choice would be the Cleveland Pound Dawgs (homage to the Browns fans, kinda like the Cincy Jungle Kats)

Pound Dawgs? Let's not turn this into a joke before it even gets started...

Cleveland Gladiators. Not. What about something that would mimic the Cavaliers? How many cities are they going to move to and keep the name. They have to change the name. lets see, New Jersey Gladiators, Las Vegas Gladiators. Cleveland Gladiators. No. If they keep the name its just so they don't have to buy new equipment and uniforms.
Huh? They'll surely have new uniforms, helmets, and logos even if they keep the nickname "Gladiators." Moreover, the name is a great AFL name. Go Pittsburgh Gladitors!
But Bulldogs works well too --its a play on the dawgpound and the Canton Bulldogs were one of the original NFL teams (Canton is near Cleveland).

But Canton is NOT Cleveland and they don't give a rat's @ss about Canton up on the lake. Bulldogs is too generic a name for the AFL, and if you tried Dawgs you'd just piss off hardcore Browns fans.
It's not the best idea, but I liked when someone else suggested Cleveland Rocks, a play on the song and the Rock 'n Roll HOF. Prob wouldn't fly because of the recent WNBA Rockers though...

Let's not forget that the NFL _did_ have a team called the Cleveland Bulldogs for a while (that's where the Canton Bulldogs played for at one time). So the name is probably locked up by NFL Properties from being used, but I think it'd be the best for the city.
Please don't be like the Destroyers. It's bad enough the 'team' has the history of Las Vegas and New Jersey tagging along.

If an old Arena League team could be the Dallas Texans, the Cleveland Bulldogs are available.

If you check out UPSTO.gov, a lot of the really old NFL names are still trademarked. The Dallas Texans were a one-year abomination, the last team in the NFL to fold. Other issue is you can't exactly trademark a common name. 'Texans' would fit the bill. You may be able to use it for a while, but you really can't restrict a team named after what the citizens of the state are called, and then prevent another team long after from going after it.
Same way Microsoft can't trademark 'Windows', but can trademark "Microsoft Windows".

I thought the Dallas Texans moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs.

Different Dallas Texans. The franchise that transferred to KC was part of the AFL. Reminds me of baseball's Washington Senators whose two incarnations became the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers.

The AFL's Texans are the Chiefs now.
The old NFL's Texans folded, and their pleyers were transferred to a new NFL team named after the old All-America Conference team, the Baltimore Colts.

The Dallas Texans NFL team folded midseason, and the NFL actually had the Texans host a 'home game' at Akron's Rubber Bowl against the Chicago Bears. I believe it was the only game the Texans won that year.
Because the original AAFC Colts folded, the NFL sold the remnants of the team to a Baltimore group to ressurect the Colts.
Interesting sidenote, is that the original Colts wore grey and green uniforms. The Texans were blue and white. When they moved the team, the uniforms went with them to Baltimore, and hence the white and blue look of the Baltimore, and now, Indianapolis Colts.

How many minor league teams have used names already "trademarked". Honestly I don't think it matters. Especially if no one really knew it ever existed. I vote for Bulldogs.
My choice would be the Cleveland Pound Dawgs
Maybe they can sign Michael Vick to play quarterback, if he can get out on work release. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
