Sitting here today pondering the possibility of a state indoor football league. It looks like it worked for Chad Dittman and the IFL in Texas. Granted Arkansas is nowhere near the size of Texas but there some cities here that do have arenas that would accomadate indoor football.

I know that Texarkana, Jonesboro, Hot Springs, Pine Bluff, Little Rock and maybe something up in the Springdale, Fayetteville area. It would tie in to be a neat little compact league. The only arena now that houses hockey is Texarkana.

We do have some very large companies that could be potental sponsors of the league.

The league would be called the Arkansas Indoor Football League (AIFL)
Players would be paid similar to the other leagues. There are a lot of good players and coaches in Arkansas that would jump at something like this.

The af2 Twisters have seen great success with the indoor concept.

I don't know if anybody makes any money on these leagues, but a few semi-pro/recreational leagues have given it a try like the Utah Indoor Football League and the United States Inside Football League. The Nebraska Indoor Football League was around for several years, but I don't think they returned in 2004.

I guess the jury is still out on the IFL. I know that they have had problems but unlike the APFL they did finish with all teams in tact. That's not too bad for a startup in Texas. They will get new owners for the teams that the league had to take over. I'm sure that they will relocate a couple of franchises but Texas is a "big" state.

As far as Arkansas, we love football here. The Arkansas Twisters are doing very well, attendance figures are good enough for the AFL. They play in a state of the art arena.

If the AIFL were to take off in 2005, indoor football would become a main stay in the state. The state could handle a six team league if there were an arena in the Fayetteville/Springdale/ Ft. Smith area. The other cities - Texarkana, Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, Jonesboro, and Little Rock (fairgrounds) would work real well in the loop.

It is very possible that something like this could be setup. There are several minor league (semi pro) teams already playing in Arkansas. There is even talk about a spring AFL. That's the Arkansas Football League not the Arena Football League.
