Think about this 4 a side concept that this guy is wanting to use in Canada in the event the NHL strikes. It could work here in the states.

11 man rosters and a goalie, no red line, and 4 a side. Heck, might make the rink a little smaller than standard so that you could bring the game into cities/arenas that have been overlooked by the other leagues.

It really makes a little more sense than Speed Hockey. That's what they are trying to do with inline hockey.

What do you guys say? Think it would work?

As far as the leagues goes, possibly but I'm not sure. The players probably won't want to injure themselves on the off-chance there is a NHL season, so the games will feature little hitting. That said, the games could be like the all-star game, very exciting with little emotion. The NHL must think 4 on 4 is a good idea or they wouldn't have made their overtimes that way.

My thoughts are besides the fact they only have one goalie. it's a good idea. You could even shrink the ice a little and still increase scoring.

You really need a backup goalie.

This 4-on-4 hockey must be a very viable idea. Wade Belak of the T. Maple Leafs pretty much guaranteed the other day on TV that if the NHL was not playing, he would be joining the 4-on4.
