Italy isn't 4th. There are far better teams (I vote for Argentina and Puerto Rico, among others). They beat USA with some ridiculous 3-point shots that won't be open when the games ain't friendly.
I doubt USA will win gold, however. There is no sign whatsoever that Larry Brown is able to instill even the hint of a system on offense. Most teams in this tournament actually have passers on the floor, at more positions than just the point. Brown would have been better off bringing his Detroit team (with ringers replacing the foreigners), but no NBA GM wants that plan.

Italy beat the US though the other night. I think if they can do that, they are worthy of 4th. However, some of the more obscure countries I don't know that well, so maybe this isn't very accurate.

Germany failed to qualify from Europe, and USA BARELY beat them the other day.
Italy struggled through European qualifying. Imagine how Serbia-and-Montenegro will fare.
Did you see Manu Ginobli run through USA at the Worlds in Indianapolis two years ago? USA may be ready for Argentina this time, but is it the way to bet?

I suppose so. I'm just ticked that Canada didn't qualify. Usually I'm pumped about Olympic Basketball.......this year, I dunno. I'm more looking forward to baseball. I hope Canada makes a run like they did at the '99 Pan-Ams.
