Well, you long time ABA followers called it...... Reno has all kinds of problems now.

1.The gym doesn't want them.

2. Head coach is wondering about his future w/o the ABA, cryng out for some sort of organization!

3. Announced VP/ Player Director Jason Glover is no longer on board... notice he is mentioned as one of the persons sending them away from the "Stadium"

"I have a (new) venue according to the people I am talking to," Newman said. "I do not have the deal worked out. Thus, they don't want to discuss it until I have it finalized. I can't reveal what our venue is at this point. I don't mean to be coy."

Best thing for the RENO Community is to "JUST SAY NO" to the ABA!

... Coach Eathan O'Bryant is watching closely, and deciding if he will stay with the club.

Coach O'Bryant should make like a Cheetah ... See ya ABA!

"I have a (new) venue according to the people I am talking to," Newman said. "I do not have the deal worked out. Thus, they don't want to discuss it until I have it finalized. I can't reveal what our venue is at this point. I don't mean to be coy."

That sort of evasive, non-definitive answer must make Joe so proud ("We have had hundreds of emails on XX," "I have spoken to multiple groups who want to put a team in XX," "Santa Claus is the new owner," etc.).

ABA Handbook 101 - answer as vaguely as possible, to CYA.

And yes, Joe HAS announced Santa Claus as a new owner:

SANTA CLAUS ARRIVES EARLY IN BUFFALO

12-Dec-2005
Buffalo, NY. There is new ownership of the ABA Buffalo Rapids - Santa Claus.

According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "The ownership of the Buffalo Rapids professional basketball team was not meeting the new ABA standards and requirements though the team was one of the best coached teams with an outstanding group of players, cheerleaders, staff and management - extraordinary people all. So, Santa Claus stepped in. We couldn't be happier."

Santa added, "The Elves, Donder, Blitzen, Rudolph, Mrs. Claus and others had a chance to attend practices and watch these wonderful players perform and their great staff continue to operate for the past 45 days under extremely difficult circumstances. To us, they showed the type of character that defines the working class of Buffalo - people who always have hope, who always support things - people who exist on a positive attitude - and keep their faith. These Buffalo Rapids are the type of people who get up everyday and keep fighting no matter how tough it gets. As one of the players said to me, "Thanks Santa. There ain't no stopping us now."

"I saw the pain in their faces, but I also saw a resolve," said Santa. Another player said to me, "If we get through this, we will make the playoffs. We've hung through the tough times. That's what jells this team. We want to be a credit to Buffalo, we want to define the character of Buffalo, we want our city to be proud of us."

Santa is busy, but he'll be back in town shortly. So, for more information, call Coach Rich Jacob at 716-903-8053 or email rjacob@buffalorapids.com or visit www.buffalorapids.com.

^that is officially gayest ABA press release ever put out

I remember when I first read that, I said to myself "Wtf?, Santa?"

And now that I know more about Joe just from reading the boards and ARWB's posts, I can now see the craziness behind that release

The guy that owns The Stadium must have figuredcout that he would never get paid. That coach better get going. He'll never get paid either.

Reno fans just got a gift. You won't be able to waste money on this 'league'.

Well, "The Staidium" can always be the practice facility for the D-League team in 08.

Sounds like the typical ABA story:

Someone maxed out credit cards paying market reservation fees. The player tryout fees didn't cover the venue rent payments and coach's pay. Panic ensues.
So the valued Newman formula for success doesn't even work for the Newman family.

Here endeth Reno.
