You guys absolutely crack me up... For people that HATE the ABA so much, you sure do know the ins and outs of the league and spend lots (way too much perhaps) of time analyzing schedules, websites, owners, players, etc.... But at the same time, thanks for making this board so exciting... the IBL and CBA ones aren't half as much fun!!! Well, I just figured i'd say hello... I look forward to arguing and adding my three cents..... Can't wait for the season to start.....:p

The ABA is a mess thats why we bash it always. The CBA may be bad in many aspects but compared to the ABA its the NBA
The ABA has owners who invest in the league and never meet the Commissioner at his office. The league offices are located in the basement of a house. Would you invest your money in a league like this? Well these fools do and get on this board and defend their stupidity. This is nuts! :p

What am I taking revenge on? For what? Please refresh my memory why anything I say about the ABA is revenge...

i'd have to agree with bball girl that this is a very entertainging board. probably much more entertaining than a aba game would be.
but you do have to question the motivation for people who put in hours daily trying to prove how bad a league is. And how do you have the time to put into something that you despise? kind of like geeks making fun of other geeks. its sad but entertaining. even if all the changes happen that you call for, it's still low level, low talent (no talent) basketball. if joe newman quits today, the league is and always will be a joke. so what is the point?
no need for explaination, just an observation, continue on.

Let's say it is revenge. How wise is it to set off a riot against you by your own actions?
Mind you, as someone who lives in Boise, whose favorite team is the soccer team in my native Portland, never owned a team, never bought an ABA ticket... I guess my curiosity is peaked. I want to know why I feel this vengeance you speak of. Please, Mr. serious omniscient soul, tell me what vexes me...
...and don't be surprised if my response comes from the Python collection. They, after all, are funny.

Revenge. Barkley talked about getting screwed as a sponsor. Okay what kind of manager puts all their time into bashing somebody online that they had a bad business relationship with? Standard was with the Matrix or whoever and he bases his motivation off that. The list goes on and on.
Zeke had a little campaign going there because he felt he was mistreated by the Aces.
Revenge, alright?
A1 also mentioned something about "imagine one day you come home and food isn't on the table because you didn't get paid" So he hasn't kept his motivation as secret as he thought he has either.
Don't think people feverishly bash a basketball league for the good of minor league ball lol
...go ahead and delete the post. This is on-topic for the thread though.

Anyone who sticks up for this league has a direct or indirect vested interest.
The rest of the normal people in the world see it for what it is, IMO a ponzi scheme to enrich oneself. IMO the ABA has tarnished minor league basketball for a long time. The same 4 -5 supporters of the league come on here with 12 different screen names as apologists for a semi -pro rec league. If you had one once of common sense you would see this league for what it is.
So the 99% of us who redicule, bash, make fun, point out inequalities or what ever you want to call it will continue to do so untill changes are done for the good of minor league basketball. This isnt just my opinion, its a majority of the people on here, those who support the league as I have said probably have interest in the league and I wouldnt be surprised if they were all newmans relatives and then Joe himself with 8 different screen names.
But all you have to do if you dont like what you read here, ask people in the sports world what they think of the "ABA". just dont cry too hard when you get the answer.

Could you take a moment and let us - and the mods - know what you consider qualifications for anyone who posts here? You know, what sort of people should be here, what the correct reasons for posting might be - that sort of stuff.
Many of us have seen first hand that kind of repetitive mistakes made by the 'leadership' of this league. I worked for an ABA team for one season, and have been privy to a great deal of operational insight during that year and beyond, for other owners with whom I have cultivated a friendship. I have seen first hand the empty, hollow promises made from the Indy kitchen; they were all flowers and rainbows on the surface but few, if any, have ever come to fruition.
If people who have been involved in the league, and been left with a sour taste, should not post, then who should? It isn't an ABA-controlled board; Joe tried to influence the old Yahoo board, but the mod quit rather than telling him where to stick his empty threats.
There has been no substantial progress made by this 'professional' league since inception. It took a season off to address its outstanding issues, and actually finds itself in worse shape - reputation-wise - than it was before. Well over 100 franchises have come and gone (or never materialized) in just the past 3 years. Every season since re-org has ended prematurely, with double-digits in teams abandoned during the year. The post-season's have been a hastily contrived, nebulously constructed schedule of nearly any team available. The tent pole franchises in the league - save for Vermont - have bolted at the first opportunity. For someone with an accomplished PR background, Newman has consistently embarrassed every franchise with his postings, outrageous and unsubstantiated claims, and offensive emails.
Yet you feel we post only out of revenge. Not because we feel the teams and players deserve better, not because we feel that minor league sports deserve better, and not because the man in charge may arguably be the least successful commissoner with the most job security in the history of professional sports.
You call it revenge; I look at it as continuing to address the major issues that will ultimately doom this league until leadership changes or the ABA as currently constituted fades away, with hundreds of players, coaches and team officials in its dust.

No, you purposefully lead threads off target for just this purpose. You'd rather waste time and attention nit-picking other posters than actually discuss the ABA or basketball. In message board terms, you are a troll.
You once again have made a blanket statement about the board that simply isn't true and when it is pointed out, you attempt to blame everyone else. Yes, some here, certainly not the majority, have had poor experiences directly with the ABA. That doesn't mean their motivation for posting is revenge, and I believe you know it.
You have been given multiple chances to post on topic and are unable or unwilling to do so. Goodbye.

I'm actually gonna miss Not Funny. Its always good to have someone who is a contrarian. The arguments did descend into non-sensical logic at the best of times though.
I first thought Not Funny was part of the ABA, then I realized it was impossible, see Not Funny truly was Not a Funny poster, in fact he had zero humour at all.
I'll miss you Not Funny, you and the 14 year old kid who mowed the lawn of Corning Tax Payer, oh and Chichest06er, I miss him too. Now its down to JamesABA to defend Joe "judgement to the plaintiff" Newman (borrowed from the hockey board)

He (I assume "he") never really defended anything. He just seemd to take joy in Newman-esque put-downs and cut/paste retorts ("It is not a rec league," etc.). He never actually posted anything substantial here, be it personal history, concrete examples, or other verifiable comments either pro or con.
I asked him to give any proof to support the comments he posted - which did not require him to reveal his name - yet he danced around it. But, he asked more than one poster here to prove their statements. Pot, meet kettle.

Exactly. I don't believe he was ever here to discuss or debate the actual issues. His sole purpose was to put down other posters. It was a sad, obvious effort.

Don't look to me to defend the league office...I'll be the first to say its a joke. I was a fan of the Frenzy because I live near them, I respect the organization that the Frost Heaves have built, and I love this level of basketball where the players are fighting to get somewhere.
