What a great idea, sell you a franchise for 20k, you lose money as an owner and I sell the league for over a million dollars. Brilliant !

meanwhile what do they talk about on OSC? oh look at my pretty van, oh look at the dancing girls, oh look at us on youtube..........LOL

amazing !!

A1- I responded to the similar post you made in the other thread, so as not to be redundant, I will let that speak for itself.

I also wanted to point out that if a potential owner makes the decision to purchase a franchise and then is surprised that he is in the red, I am sure that no one will feel sorry for him or her. Any business that is just beginning has to be expected to take a loss in the first year or more, depending on what it is. I am speaking in general terms, of course.

Minor League teams have been a losing proposition for the most part, especially ones that do not have their own stadium, building, etc. It should not come as a shock for a new owner that he is not rolling in the dough. When you are only going to get $10 for a ticket, you would need a packed house every night to probably break even. That is not the case with leagues such as the ABA, USBL and the like. If you factor in promoting the team and taking out advertising space, then the amount that you are chasing becomes even larger.

The owners of these teams should not be chastisied for doing this. It is their choice and they have to deal with the consequences. The majority of them are good people that want to strive to make their franchise a success and work hard doing so. The few that do not may be giving the others a bad rap.

If it weren't for the smart assed wise cracks and insults here, many of us would have no reason to look at this board. The ABA is to basketball what this board is to higher learning. People get thrilled to read about the ever popular dance teams, community events where there are 8 people standing in a shopping mall parking lot, lame videos shot in an empty rec center, team tryouts that cost $200 for someone without a clue evaluating players, owners that have no business skills whatsoever, Joe's fake ASK THE CEO questions, and answering them himself, complaining about the schedule showing up, no websites, no info, no records, and NO attendance.

I am completely and totally sick and tired of references to the ABA of the 60's and 70's. People are beyond excited when a team comes close to playing a complete schedule or actually travels. Maybe Joe isn't as big of a knucklehead as you think. If I could continue to find people willing to give me money, then bail out with a load, I'd do the same thing. The only reason Joe could pull this off is there is an endless supply of idiot owners, idiot players and idiot fans.

WHAFAN is one of the main reasons I look at this board........he constantly describes the feelings of 98% of those familiar with the ABA. Only with an abundance of witty, TRUTHFUL humor.

Everyone here feels the same way, why am I one of the few that express it? If what I write and describe wasn't true, it would be sad and pathetic. But concerning the ABA, its both. If I own a team, I paid $15,000 for it, invite 200 local yocals to tryouts, charge them $150 each, $200 at the door, I've covered my investment, put $15,000-$20,000 in my pocket, minus what the rec center charges me, or if I promise to sweep the YMCA after its over, I can't lose. Newman is like a lawyer in a courtroom who is both the defense and prosecutor. One way or another, he wins. As long as there are idiots willing to pay him, idiots willing to try-out then cry about not getting paid, and idiots who show an interest in this 7 year abortion, more power to him. Maybe all of you OSC ABA posters are jealous.......you didn't think of this scam first. Most leagues would collapse with teams folding so often. When ABA teams fold, there is MORE money to be made. <Removed by admin>

Heck i was sick and still am sick of this league. After dropping 3k on a team sponsorship which i then found out that he spent the 3k to pay for a trip for his butt to go to the dominican republic, got me ticked off.

Sometimes I wish this league was just put in a nuclear reactor and burned to oblivion

The only reason Joe could pull this off is there is an endless supply of idiot owners, idiot players and idiot fans.

The whole leaque has only 200 idiot fans. If there were more, the possibility of non-idiot fans following them might increase, and those fans, upon seeing all this, would likely dismantle a few of the gyms the leaque plays in.

It only goes to show that idiot fans aren't required for an idiot leaque.

Having said that, Mister Happy has a good point from another thread:

Maybe I'm wrong, but the way I see it, the value of the league is different than the value ($0) of each franchise.

If you charge $25,000 per team entry fee, that is $100k per four teams. Using Joe's business model, a typical year has what, 40 new teams? That's a million - and if you're real aggressive, and just focus on adding teams with the theory that more is better, it wouldn't take long to get your money back. At least a million per year, then resell each franchise the next season, etc.

No one said the new owner has to be ethical, they just have to use Joe's business model.

It'd be fun to think someone could write a loophole into a contract and cut Joe out of the game after the purchase.

Hey Standard, don't take this the wrong way OK? YOU were one of the idiots I speak of. You fell for the ABA bait, now your bitter. Wouldn't 3K have been better served by donating it to a local high school team for new uniforms or training equipment? No return on the money, but some satisfaction. I'm sure you went to high school somewhere........unlike many of these knuckleheads pouring money into Joe's funnel. Community leaders, business owners, and morons. I'm a pillar in my community, my wife and I own a stained glass/neon glass business, so I should buy an ABA team right? I'd sooner eat broken glass with a Ex-Lax chaser than support this crap fest.

WHAFAN No im not bitter. And many of us have been shamed by these owners. This guy Wray M. Wade spoke great things of the team and hey they had a good team. Some of the guys on the team, I played against them or played with them for years. So i gave him money so he could pay for expenses but not an expense to a trip to a third world country.

See I have been donating since i was 18 to my high school. Not only do I spend over 3k for the boys basketball program another 3 k is spent in the baseball program as well. Along with the fact that I sponsor two schools in Upstate New York, One School in Arizona, One School in California and two schools in Puerto Rico. This to go along with being a booster for the University of Arizona. I spend over 15k a year sponsoring schools. And I do it for a good reason to help you the students and at the same time the tax implications. Trust me I hate being in the high tax bracket, but i do it because i want these young men and women to have something to enjoy and also to keep them away from the streets.

Children say worse things now in days. Trust me what they say is X rated compared to what they see here.

Anyways.

This is not a pro league this is a prolym league.
