Not to defend anyone... but I believe Major League Baseball allows teams to report season ticket counts as "attendance", whether the tickets are used or not.

I can't think of any indoor football league that could use that excuse (after all, if they sold enough season tickets to explain their inflated attendance figures, they wouldn't be broke)... :)

Yes, most teams, major and minor league, report tickets sold, or distributed (including tickets given to sponsors, but usually not straight comps). Turnstile count is likely to be an internal number only.
