A player from an ABA try-out was offered 50 dollars per game. The player said he works nights. The owner said he would get from a friend, a Doctors note excusing him from work.

proof: This is a semi pro rec league !

Why would a guy waste like $100 on a tryout, knowing he works nights, and knowing most if not all games are played at 7pm

Most car washes are closed in the evenings, although many Burger Kings are open past midnight now. If a guy skips a days work for $50, my elementary math skills tell me this guy is making $6.25 an hour of less for an 8 hour day. This could full well explain where these ABA teams find suckers to sign up and play for them. If you have any skills, you could make more money hustling games at a local YMCA. And no travel problems!! As long as there are idiots, there will be an ABA.

For the record, WHA FAN is great. Also. let me fill you in, the PBL will not be much better than what we are talking about. I know you guys are all excited about something new and different, but take it for what it's worth, they are having problems. And do not ask what kind of problems, I am not going to get into it. But, it is not so easy starting and running a league as people might think.

I have Doyles phone number of the PBL and I have Fernandez's phone number of the CBA. Go ahead and name a problem and ill do you the favor of calling anyone of them to verify. I have Joes number also but after one converation almost 2 years ago, I doubt he would take my call and why would I want the abuse. SO Lets hear of some problems?

one way, you do need to put something up here. we are all interested to hear. my contacts are saying things are going very well with a few major announcements pending in a few days. yes, if you are running a league with too many teams and you don't know who will live day to day, it is a daunting task. If you have 10 to 16 teams with viable ownership groups, guess what: it becomes alot easier. If you know something else, tell us...otherwise, it's all propaganda.

You've pointed this out a couple of times now. The players in question were local players who were 14th and 15th on the depth chart. The ABA only allows you to have 12 active players for a game. They are a couple of local guys who were essentially practice players. Your innuendo is pretty meaningless, but by all means keep charging the windmill their Don Quixote.

alumni96 - His point is that Vermont which is a shining example of how this league can work, once it usurps Joe, isn't even a full professional squad.

BTW- you are the 1st person I've ever heard indicate that these were the "14th and 15th" guys on the team, a'la practise squad only.

your model franchise, Vermont, has players play for free...please name another basketball league that is professional that does the same.............................. thats what I thought. NONE.

Semi pro rec league = ABA

I'm getting to the point where we shouldn't even refer to this as a basketball league anymore.

Call the league what you like. I know what it is. Just don't lump in Vermont with those teams whose top players are the ones not getting payed.

On an aside I have no problem with people criticizing the things that need criticizing. That's as it should be. My problem with A1 is that he tries to tear down even the things that are good or working simply to achieve his desired goal. The sad thing is he's just wasting his time. The league will either succeed or fail regardless of his efforts here. He simply serves to divert discussion about basketball with his personal propaganda war. He'd be better served to promote the leagues he thinks do things right.

Most teams have 15 players signed but can only activate and dress 12 per game. It is not out of the question to have a few local guys on the roster that are usually not activated. With a league that loses players to overseas contracts often, a team that has their act together will have these players available on the 'taxi squad,' as it is called in other sports. That is to prevent any situations where you would go into a game with a short bench if a few players leave at the same time and you don't have their replacements ready to go.
