I saw a hint of this on another thread and confirmed it on wikipedia....
Reno Sharpshooters are owned by ABA CEO's nephew Greg Newman....
Is this the first time ABA kin has been thrown under the bus????
What will happen with this one? Team disappears, moves, sold to new
ownership group. Or are we handed the "In order to give the fans in Reno
the full ABA entertainment experience. We have decided to suspend Reno's
operations until the 2008-09 season....etc...."
I'm anxious to see how this one plays out.

Reno Sharpshooters suspend operations
10/29/07
The Reno Sharpshooters have suspended operations and will not play in the 2007 - 2008 season.
"Securing a venue is the first thing you have to do to make this a success," says team President Greg Newman. "Once this happens then you can move forward. We still are waiting for final documentation from the school district. It has taken too long to make this thing work for this year.
This is typical A.B.A. Newman -- Blame the venue (for the third time).
"Moving forward from this point was going to be tough. We pushed the deadline back and back to try and make this work, but promotion, ticket sales, and sponsorships were impossible to accomplish because the only focus was on the venue." Newman continues,
Again...Blame the venue That nasty ole venue
The Reno Events Center turned out not to be a viable venue.
Kind of a trend, isn't it.
The ABA is disappointed, but it has been very supportive along the way. Reno has been a target market for the past six years, and future options may still exist if the team secures its own home.
I bet the A.B.A. is disappointed -- Especially when your Uncle is the C.E.O.
"I hope that one day this can work for Reno. As a native of Reno, I would love to have as much professional sports here as the city will support." Newman writes, "We had a team that was going to win and a great coach that was teaching these guys how to be pros. The Sharpshooters would have been great because this town backs a winner."
Smooch, smooch, kiss, kiss, -- Hey Reno, maybe next year???
Hey Greg, don't you get it -- they don't want the A.B.A.!!!
Even gamblers don't like the odds...
I wonder if Joe will give him his $10,000 back?

You assume, of course, that Greg paid $10K in the first place. It wouldn't shock me at all to hear that the fee was 'waived' for the Reno franchise - nepotism has its benefits.
Right, Joe?

"Greg, I told you before. No refunds. It's in the Newman family crest."
