Anyone have any insight on getting into this league?

I'm assuming this is the national league in Mexico? My guess would be to contact the clubs as I'm sure there's a website for the league out there. If not I would go to www.fiba.com and look up the Mexican Basketball Federation and contact them about tryouts for the league. From what I know about Central American basketball leagues, which isn't much, it is very hard for non-Hispanic players to crack the roster. So unless you are of Mexican ancestry, I would guess that you might run into trouble playing down there.

Plus if its anything like the Venezuelan league that I read about, I wouldn't want to play down there. In Venezuela, I read that the fans are as rowdy as the baseball fans. They tend to throw things at players and the like. In some arenas its so bad they don't even have floor seats.

If I were you, I'd look at travelling to Europe to play. Depending on your talent, I would target leagues in Iceland, Britain, Luxembourg and Scandanavia. These leagues tend to be mostly domestic players, but aren't quite as xenophobic as the Central American leagues. The one knock I would have against Iceland and Scandanavia is that you should be prepared for a long, cold and dark season up there. The winters there are much like that of Saskatchewan and at some times even Alaska.

The other option I would think would be to find leagues in Asia/Africa that have poor talent pools. I'm not sure about basketball, but I do know that Taiwan and Korea both have pro baseball leagues that aren't nearly as good as many American minor leagues. Those two might have pro basketball leagues that would take an American player that is not top notch. (No offense, but I assumed if you're wanting to play in Mexico, that you aren't knocking on the NBA's door.)

The LNBP can be found at www.lnbp.com.mx and check out www.usbasket.com or its Latin American counterpart www.latinbasket.com. The LNBP is the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional and is operating with 20 teams this season, which just started a few weeks ago. Another summertime league is the CIMEBA at www.cimeba.cjb.net and the spring league known as the CIBACOPA at www.cibacopa.com.mx.
