Delaware, the last nameless team, finally has a name...

"First State" is not needed in the name haha

Maybe they are calling it "First State", so that when they move the team, it will be called "Second State Fusion", then "Third State Fusion", and so on...

who don't know the facts, Delaware is the first state-officially-which is where the name comes from(if you do know, please bear with me). First State Fusion. I will say it is unique.

So you're saying they'll move to Pennsylvania, and then New Jersey?

They're trying to borrow from the style of the Golden State Warriors, as Delaware's official nickname is "The First State" (like California's is "The Golden State")

If I ever get a basketball team, I might call them the Badger State Bombers...

TheStandard

well they will move from place to place throughout delaware just like the Buzz does through southern california.

The name sounds like a bank owns them well it will to the owners credit rating.

I know that's what it stands for, but that doesn't make it any less stupid. Don't these owners take pride in the city where their team is located?

If you wind up moving from venue to venue, it makes it easier to use the same stationary/business cards if you have no specific location in your name....

The extension of this theory will come when someone calls themselves the Atlantic Coast Seagulls or something like that; that gives them thousands of high schools to choose from.

Im waiting for an ABA team to be called Team America that means millions and millions of middle schools and high schools to choose from

You'd probably get sued by the South Park creators that made the movie "Team America World Police"

The NASL had a franchise called "team America" in the 70s.

Lets help Joe name a team.

Team "we may show up"
Team " I O U"
Team "Bounced checks"
Team "10k"
Team "SEC Breakers"
Team " Conniejoes"

any other suggestions?

Nicknames are original, however -- most teams that went to the public
for feedback in my area. Came back hearing, leave it to the city it represents.

Still we have the Lake Erie Monsters AHL team??? We could of had the (Richfield, Ohio, North Coast or Great Lakes) Cavaliers for an NBA team.

ABA team??? How about: "First State of Rigor Mortis"

The NASL did field a team called Team America in 1983 based in Wash D.C.

Now they can truly call it Team America Basketball and they can move from city to city. Hey Toledo, First stop!

The NASL's Team America was based in Washington D.C. in 1983.
It was the brain child of someone who wanted to build a U.S.
national team, with U.S. born players and naturalized citizens....

different than an actual franchise in the league, as Team Hawaii was.

and when America's top players chose not to play with Team America which was in conjunction with the US Soccer, It tanked.

Of course, just a year after that, the whole league tanked anyway.

Peppe Pinton will allow MLS to use Cosmos for a mere 4 million. Since he was Giorgio Chinaglia's, um, cabana boy, and Chinaglia has taken his own sweet time taking swipes at MLS, I guess I'm not too surprised that MLS doesn't go there. Besides, MLS isn't giving up The Entity (think "The Blob") until each team makes enough money, so the caps stay in place, so the Cosmos would be in name only.

Galaxy- always has been and always will be a bigger hit than Aztecs. End of story.

Sockers- indoor, baby, indoor. Yes, I know they started outdoor and went indoors, but they really made their name indoors. San Diego could be where Chivas USA belongs.

Rowdies- not a bad idea, especially since Mutiny didn't work. Malcolm Glazer could have done it, too, and in his own stadium, but he apparently decided Manchester United was a better investment.

Lets see an MLS team or Man U?? Hmm logical thinking. Man U.

George Steinbrenner also holds a stake in that team also.

Actually. If the Cosmo's do comeback they would have to play in New York maybe share the space with the Mets or a soccer specific stadium which is what the New York Jets would have done for new york city if they were given space at Flushing meadows park to create their own stadium. It was going to be a football stadium for the jets and then the jets would have built a 25k seat soccer specific stadium also. But that tanked. Oh and don't bother running a team into Nassau County, they are always screaming broke. That is why I feel the Islanders will move out of Long Island after their lease is up and maybe head to Brooklyn when the Barclays center does if it does open.

Besides that. Is the Delaware owner the same one of the USBL team?

psbf
09-06-2007, 12:31 PM
been a Buccaneers fan(NFL), but I've never understood Glazer's need to go after Man U instead of going domestic. It tells me he is another fan of greed, which is why I don't like him and his decision to opt for the English power-house over the Mutiny. With his wealth, he could own both. Another owner who prefers foreign to domestic-sad(imo).

Sounds like someone familiar with I-95 and Wilmington DE.

Isn't this team playing in Dover? If so, they should have been the Undertakers. Dover DE is home to the world's largest morgue at Dover AFB.

Disclaimer: it is a place of revered respect, so I say this to mock the Houston Takers and the ABA, NOT the Dover AFB

From the American Soccer History website:

"One major innovation for the season was the establishment of Team America. The product of an unprecedented collaboration between the NASL, the United States Soccer federation, the ASL and the MISL, Team America a new team , based in Washington DC which took part in the 1983 NASL season."

"The biggest disappointment was Team America. Many of the National team players were not convinced by Team America, and chose to remain with their respective NASL clubs. With a thin talent base to fill the roster, the USSF resorted to stocking the team with naturalized citizens who comprised nearly half of the roster. It struggled to a 10-20 record. despite drawing nearly 11,000 fans per game at Washington, the experiment was an embarrassing failure and the team was withdrawn from the league."

That last part has ABA written all over it. (the "embarassing failure" part, not the 11k/game part, but everybody already knew that!)
