I'm going to be in NE Ohio for Thanksgiving weekend and was looking for some hockey games on that Friday Night (November 23rd). My first choice, the Lake Erie Monsters, don't have a home game that night, so I thought I'd check the Steelhounds schedule. I was happy to see they have a home game, but it's their home opener. I don't want to buy tickets in advance in case other family holiday obligations would trump my quest for a hockey game, so I was wondering if anyone familiar with the team would know what the chances of getting a couple of tickets at the door are. It would be about an hour trek for me to get there and I wouldn't want to make the drive and get turned away at the door. My other option would be a Mahoning Valley Phantoms NAHL game on the same night.

Jesus thats one late home opener. That's over a month after the season starts. Horrible scheduling.
The average about 3,600 per game in a barn that holds about 5,700. They might have a few more people because of the home opener but you probably will be able to get some tix.
My understanding is that the late season opener is at the request of the Steelhounds organization. The northeast Ohio area is really big on football, and the Steelhounds won't have to compete as much with the local college and high school games if they start later. Maybe it reduces some of the travel costs for the Steelhounds also, since Youngstown is so far east as compared to most of the CHL teams.
You should be able to get tickets. It's worth the drive. I've driven over an hour to watch them play many times. The Youngstown games have been as exciting as the Columbus games I've seen.
