Looking Forward to 2009
Changes on the horizon for the Shockwave

After a great inaugural season, the San Diego Shockwave have decided to lay dormant for a season while a solid west coast division can be built in a strong national indoor league. The Shockwave looks forward to returning in 2009 to continue offering fans and players the opportunity for competitive indoor football.

To help expedite the process the Shockwave ownership is looking into investing in an established team that is part of one of the multiple leagues the Shockwave is considering being a part of for their return in 2009. The team hopes that being an active part of a league will give them more power in helping to lay the foundation to build a strong west coast division, of which teams are already being recruited.

During the break in active play, the Shockwave is also researching the possibility of building a sports complex. The building of our own facility will create investment opportunities, giving individuals the chance to become part of the Shockwave. Please call or e-mail the Shockwave offices for more information on these opportunities.

The Shockwave would like to thank all of its loyal fans and followers for their support, and encourage them to send any questions, comments or concerns to FrontOffice@SanDiegoShockwave.com or call 877.746.2928.

From my experience, most teams that say they're "taking a break" never do return the next year, if ever. (Richmond Speed, Laredo Law, PIFL, etc.)

Usually true, but most teams don't have the financial strength of the Shockwave ownership. I don't think we've heard the last of the Sprowls, not by a longshot.

That sound you heard was the "panic" button going off in Casper and the AIFA office.

Maybe it has been too long since I checked the forum. I don't follow. Can you explain?

Wyoming jumped to the AIFA as part of anticipated "West" division. One that was theorized to include San Diego (and not much else). Wyoming's pretty isolated right now.

I can tell you that I would be shocked if Wyoming had counted on San Diego to be part of the AIFA. The Cavalry management has been looking elsewhere for AIFA opponents.

Ahh. Thanks for the update.

The Pueblo newspaper had an article a while back that said that there were other leagues looking into Pueblo after the Pistols folded. I'm thinking Pueblo will be an AIFA team next season. It might be possible that a few teams jump ship from the af2 and UIF, but the AIFA shouldn't be depending on that.

jumping from af2 to a lower level league. Look at Peoria and Tenn Valley? Both tried and failed miserably and now they are back in the Rams80's evil empire.

Problem with the AF2 teams jumping is that they don't own the rights to their name and logo, so they have to abandon that in order to get out of the AF2. That right there is a major blow for a team that (if they're leaving the AF2 for financial reasons) probably doesn't have that much jack to put in a marketing campaign for the newly renamed, relogoed team.

Yeah, it's not so much the level they go to, but the loss of their identity that really kills them.

Even when a team is supposedly moving "up" to af2 like Fort Wayne, Corpus and some others, attendance actually fell and I think much of that is due to the identity loss.

After Peoria and TV, I doubt any other af2 teams will try jumping ship . . . (or should we call it "walking the plank?").

I actually thought they meant going after failed af2 markets. Which might actually have been worse.

Lateralling out of the af2 is unthinkable at this point. You stay there and watch your franchise die.

While that might be true, I don't think that's the case with the Shockwave. The Sprowls are looking to make sure whatever league they end up in is stable and are also looking at trying to build their own place to play games. Unlike the San Diego Riptide, the Shockwave will be back.

Someone should call Vegas and get a book started on this....

Teams SHOULD be looking to build their own arena. Emphasis on USE YOUR OWN MONEY.

Thing is, when it comes to America, you have probably 1% of owners who even promise this actually go through with it. When I hear someone utter those words, therefore...

...you know...
