Looks like Quad City and Rockford have decided to move to a professional league, the PBL. True businessmen know what the right move is.

PS, Alex, any comments yet? been waiting for a year !

Time for a new schedule, version 67,454 and counting.

Wasnt the owner of these teams on here posting one day??

Well Ill be dammed, thats 2 pretty decent teams the ABA has, but I dont see any indication or notice of this yet, so I guess Ill have to keep my eyes open!!

I would ask for a source, but a1, you're an insider.

Where did you hear this, and when should the rest of us hear this?

Very simple..I had my buddy stand outside the PBL owners meeting at the hotel and when it was over...he asked a few owners, whats going on?...looks like some talked!

He also said Kenny Smith was there talking to the owners . Then left in a limo.

An internet company was there.

A rep from Direct TV.

An owners governing board was formed.

There was over 30 applications to the PBL. One owner said there will be only ten teams this year. Six more added to 2008.

Kenny Smith was there and that is very much confirmed.

PBL is doing things the right way. Patience is the virtue of all good things

If this occurs, it would be devastating for the ABA and I don't think I am over stating that statement. Those are two very strong teams with solid ownership, and they seem to really have their acts together. That would really throw off things in the midwest and make travel more complicated.

I think if this happens, Brad will be taking shots of Jack with Maalox chasers as he will have to play with the schedule yet again. The instability of the league, and teams coming in and out like potheads in a head shop tells me that Joe must step down from the league. If he doesn't, the league will be dead in two years TOPS, but could go down sooner. The financial problems, lawsuits, and the haphazard way he runs the league is a joke and ruins the image of minor league basketball as a whole.

I firmly believe there are good owners, and people like Brad who bust their tails to try and make this thing work. Joe is the one who gets in the way because he is the one who makes the final call on implementation of what are solid ideas from Brad and others.

I hear from good sources that Flint is not solid and will not start and Palm Beach is connected to Flint and won't happen. Same ownership! Miami Tropics who didn't finish the season is now Flint Tropics who won't start.

Right now, according to the ABA's own webpage, this organization is scheduled to field 41 teams (43 if you count Beijing and Tijuana).

What a company.

After reading this development I'm now worried about the future of the St. Louis Stunners. The Stunners played against Quad City and Peoria almost half the time last year. With these two teams gone, who are the Stunners going to play that is close?

This doesn't look good at all. It's a huge blow to the midwest division. :(

Care to share?

No QC, no Rockford, a St. Louis team that was iffy last year, Chicago's always iffy....

Essentially, Peoria has no more close divisional rivals, and they probably can't afford the travel.

Competing with Bradley also probably hurt them.

Not really, which is what usually happens when a minor league team goes up against even a Mid-major level school. (Shame bectond hasn't caught on to that...)

Ill just wait for the press release!

You got a1 saying "make a phone call, hes not in the ABA"

Then theres the Magic Man saying "McGinn told the ABA his teams are staying in the ABA"

I dont know what to believe nor do I really give two <Removed by admin> about this lol, I dont care what league these teams are in, BUT i find it still interesting to see which ABA teams leave, and heres 2 potential teams that are in the better crowd of teams in the ABA

Let the Basketball Gods decide ...

Although, if McGinn's teams were to leave ... It would mess up the Midwest schedule.

I had heard, as of Tues night, that the Midwest was complete, with the exception of one away game for St Louis which needed to be scheduled.

Ya poor Brad found out about a team leaving the ABA 3 weeks ago on this board. The guy didn't call the ABA just a newspaper and the story was picked up here.

Joe reads this board weekly and wishes it would just go away. I mean overall Peoria probably doesn't have much to worry about. I mean Rockford , Quad Cities bolt, Chicago simply doesn't show up and _______(insert any team here) will make the odd appearance. Big deal, old Joe has a plan.

1/ replace the Quad Cities schedule with Hawaii
2/ replace the Rockford schedule with Halifax
3/ issue press release saying he threw Quad Cities and Rockford out of the league
4/ no need to proof-read for grammatical errors, simply put on abalive.com
5/ call Peoria (collect) and announce he is good for any travel expense "above and beyond" what it would take to go to Quad Cities and Rockford
6/ check caller id (a habit since 1987) and not answer phone when Peoria calls looking for money.

I think this guy is going to lose a lot of money before he bails out on this. This is a lot different than running a farm. "Gee, it would be fun to own a basketball team!" Another dreamer that Joe has found.

The ABA is not a real league. Figure it out idiots! Geez, I wish I had the money to burn that these pathetic clowns have.

Give Joe credit. He knows how to find suckers.

McGinn:

“From a financial standpoint, we had a rough first year. I don’t have any numbers I want to brag about,” McGinn said. “It wasn’t a lucrative year.

“But during midseason, we had a turning point. We actually started picking up more sponsors, our ticket sales went up, and we learned how to attract fans.

“I believe in two years it will be a profitable venture. The second half of last season made me believe that.”

And...

Off the court, the franchise was a mess. Average announced attendance for the year was 240 fans, which was inflated by no-shows on corporate giveaways. Often, actual attendance was fewer than 100.

That's cause for optimism? Where the hell are the leading economic indicators there?

McGinn has targeted 1,200 to 1,500 for an average attendance in the team’s first season at its new home.

Unlikely. As long as you're just going to hope that 100 is going to turn into 1200 like sea monkeys grow or something.

Joe reads this board weekly and wishes it would just go away.

I want proof!

Here's the thing:

"Your focus determines your reality."

Perhaps I should apologize for giving out quotes from Star Wars I, but it's profound for this discussion.

Internet trolls are trying to disparage leagues and virtually every other business out there. You get used to it, go about your business, realize that not everyone uses the internet, or is smart enough to separate the trolls from possibly legitimate complaints, don't overdo it, and move on. It's not like the revolution has taken hold here.

However, a common theme of these owners and other pro-ABA forces (including a PM I once received) is that there's this organized campaign on this board that's out to get them. Since life is generally lived well away from this here internet, it kills me to think that these people fall into the conspiracy theory crap... UNLESS, and only unless, the prime business is the ponzi scheme rather than basketball. The fact that a few owners get a little basketball accomplished around all this is gravy, or an aberration. The solution to your problems, 99.994% of the time, is in YOUR mirror. If you're not even trying to solve the basketball problems, that tells me what the prime focus is. Clear and convincing evidence to the contrary requires a lot of action that should have started happening months ago. Just saying...

I want proof!

Well Pounder if your focus determines your reality then proof might be hard to come by huh? I mean I can't point to Youtube where you see Joe shouting "I just want this OSC board to go away" and "I read this OSC board every day"

I have an email that I believe shows Joe reads this board and also grumbles about the characters upon it and I can forward to Fells and/or Paul if needed.

But I once PM'ed a number of people and some moron then goes and does a cut and paste and yells at Joe to come sue us. If Paul and/or Fells want the email I will forward it. If not the proof will be like all the other proof on this ridiculous league.

No offence Pounder, you are a good poster but I trust the mods and Bomp only. Its not like I am an insider or anyone who has ever claimed to be part of the ABA, ever. I've been to a couple of Frenzy games and thats it. So as far as "proof" and Star Wars references goes thats it.

Although seeing as we all like Spinal Tap references in comparison to the ABA ........................then I fear Sir Dennis Eton Hogg ringing his lawyer.

I'm not too sure that the meeting was as GREAT as we might have been led to believe ...

I also received some addt'l info this afternoon that would support the fact that the ABA is not 100% unified.

There is a great deal of distrust of the ABA CEO.

The picture is pretty clear ... The ABA needs a NEW CEO!
