As a longtime participant on the board (not as much as the past...I guess I'm trying to stay above the fray) I thought it would be interesting to keep a tally of ABA teams who announce tryout camps...and then compare it to the list of ABA teams who begin the season...Maybe somebody could follow up with the teams that don't make it that far (if there are any) and see if they refund the money to the players that tryout.

Not that we have any reason to suspect that the ABA try to take advantage of players...just for fun...

Philadelphia Squires
St. Louis Rottweilers
Kentucky Colonials (third camp)
New Jersey Jaguires
Arkansas Rimrockers
Ft. Worth Tycoons (second camp)
Jacksonville Wave (second camp)
Gwinnett Gwizzlies
Carolina Thunder
Utah Snowbears
Reno Rockers
Native American Team (multiple)
Hershey PA
Las Vegas
Maryland Nighthawks
Boston Frenzy
Reign (not too sure what city)
Jacksonville

Feel free to update the list as we go...

Just my take...minor league teams who have free agent camps more than two months before a season (or who have tryout camps before they have a coaching staff) probably don't have talent scouting at the top of their list of priorities.

The Nashville Rhythm of the ABA recently had a free-agent tryout camp at their 2004-2005 venue, Lipscomb University's Allen Arena. It is more than two months before the season, but the Rhythm have a head coach in Ashley McElhiney, and while I don't know if she has a complete coaching staff, she was assisted at the camp by several locally respected baketball figures; Charlie Anderson (former Stratford High and national-title-winning head coach at Aquinas Junior College), Charles Davis (former Vanderbilt and NBA player), and Karen Booker (former Vandy BB star).
