Below are typical bank account balances of minor league sports teams as I know of owners in BOTH leagues, what their travel costs and salaries are and what they leave in reserves. Bear in mind that these owners ALL have extensive credit lines available to them at their banks, ALL have networths exceeding $5 million and are financially liquid.
Bank Balances:
AHL: $250,000+
A-AAA Baseball: $500,000
Bank Balances:
ABA Teams $0.00 - $126.75
CBA teams (Not sure, have never seen one, but assume it is more respectable then the ABA's)
How can these ABA owners look in the mirror every day and claim they are legitmate "sports owners". They are virtually ALL broke, bounce checks, reneg on leases, refs and players, screw sponsors, have credit scores in the mid to 400's , couldn't get a credit line if they tried......even a CapitalOne Secured,.....I mean...aren't they embarrassed??? Their other minor league brethren spend more on cleaning the field or ice for one game then these guys have as a networth. If I am an ABA owner and I am going to come on this board and ADMIT I own a team....at least have some credility financially. Talk is cheap!!! You want respect and not to be laughed at as an owner, then SHOW us you have AT LEAST $500K in the bank as "play money", have AT LEAST a $1 million networth....then we can believe what you say and look at you more credibly. Other then that.........

No team owner needs that much money. There are only 5 requirements to own an ABA team.
1-have a lifelong love for basketball and be a part of the community
2-being a minority doesn't hurt
3-have a dance team
4-a homemade 3rd grade level team logo
5-ignore all stats and keep no records of anything, along with the ability to deeply screw anyone associated with you.
Money doesn't run this league. If any owner in the ABA had enough common sense to EARN any decent money, they would have enough sense not to get mixed up in this fiasco. This should be the KHBA......KnuckleHead Basketball Association.

Again....LMFAO, I had tears in my eyes at that last post.
In any event, NO ABA "OWNER" should come on OSC from here on out and classify themselves as a sports team owner; believe me you are NOT a legitimate owner in any stretch of the word, but simply accomplished the following:
1. Begged, borrowed (and most likely stole) $10K for the "franchise"
2. Put about $1,000 in your account as Start-Up Capital
3. Formed a Dance team to be the face of the franchise (and make a little coin in "try-out" fees")
4. Rented a gym for a Player "try-out" to help finance your expansion.
5. Negotiated a lease with a jr. high or high school gym for the season....."personally guaranteeing" the lease but what the hell, you have been evicted before, whats the difference here?
6. Hit up area sponsors for cash, promising them "exposure" to the thousands of fans that will show up........however, the only thing that these poor sponsors will see are the backs of bleachers and chairs....and the loud chirping of crickets!!!!!!!
7. Rented an "office" for $250 a month, put down a deposit for the phone because your credit was so bad that the phone company required it (that, and they have heard of the ABA and the life span of a franchise)
8. Hired a coach, promising him "exposure" to the NBA and a bounced check or two.
9. Formed the team
10. Made travel arrangements for the upcoming season (vans, vans and more vans), trying like crazy to stretch that $3,988.00 budget!!!!
11. FOLDED BEFORE YOUR FIRST GAME.
ABA "owners".....95% of you are nothing more than snake oil salesmen dreaming of telling all your friends you own a "team", when in fact your unemployed car salesmen looking for you next swindle.

But...but....it's cool to own a team. If you once played basketball, or love basketball (or both), and want to say you're cool because you own a pro basketball team, you'd totally do this.

LOL.....yeah, if you want to call it a pro team. BUT....Pro's get PAID.....pro's have fans.....pro's have ref's that show up....pro's have uniforms.....pro's don't have logo's and websites that look like they were done by an "artist" on a 4 day drunk.

Ya using the ABA logic, I am a pilot as I fly around the country on Northwest and Continental as a passenger, I am a race car driver as I drive to work and once raced a guy off the line when the light turned green. I am a chef as I cook dinner, I am a wildlife expert as I own a dog, I am a home builder as I once helped my son construct a lego house, I am a doctor as I once told my wife to take an asprin when she had a headache, I am ships captain as I once rowed a boat with my family under my stewardship......................
all of the above are about as close to the real thing as being a professional sports franchise owner in the ABA. I grant you, some guys are good owners of good teams who were run in a professional manner.

The CBA and the NBDL have to post a letter of credit that the league can draw from. The ABA does not require that. Hence no money from the ABA, just a high school gym and guys playing for 50.00 per game. I cannot give the exact amount for the letter of credit, but it is over 100,000.
