I'm keen on my good friends from Boston ...

But ... I'm too sure this team is going to be ready to go.

Only 4 months to get a basketball organization up & operating???

I didn't get a good vibe listening to:

Magician, you and I both know that Boston is not holding a "try-out".....that is nothing more then a fundraiser for the team like all the other ABA "try-outs".

We must admit, 4 months is not a lot of time but we have been working for longer than four months. The offical press release came out in July but negotiations and organization had been going on for months prior. We truly hope to put a quality product on the floor. We have also beaten the Cape Cod Frenzy (ABA) in the Greater Springfield Pro-Am League twice this year, both by more than 20. We have the talent to compete. In addition, we will have a major facility in the Boston area as our home gym and headquarters. More news on that later. I appreciate your comments on our team. Please feel free to ask any other questions as I will monitor this thread regularly.

Boston United,

I do respect that you are going to post on the forum, and I respect that you are trying to build a basketball team in such a short amount of time, and I am sure it is an difficult task.

I do have a question for you, and I am sure most of the others here would like to know as well. Has the league been in contact with you about travel plans to and from Halifax (noticed I put 'from' in here as well)? Obviously, they will be in the same division as yourself, Cape Cod, Vermont, Quebec City and Montreal. I'm a Frost Heaves fan (and former 13th player) and I know it is a WHOLE lot cheaper to travel to Barre, or Burlington, than it is to Halifax. I am just really wondering if there has been any word from the front office on this.

Don't take this personal, because it's all business. But what were you thinking when you decided to join this league? What did Joe tell you, promise you or otherwise say that got you to join this league? Did you look at other leagues? Did the capital requirements scare you away from other leagues? Did you look at the history of the current ABA in the Boston area? Have you looked at the history of the ABA stock prices? (High $2, low and current $.06).
A major facility? That usually quickens a team's demise when they can't afford the rent. (Sometimes they can't even come up with the deposits.) What kind of marketing budget do you have? (Realizing in a market like Boston, you will need to spend high six figures to low seven to get out the message that you even exist.)
How will you handle things when your first scheduled opponent doesn't show? Your 10th opponent doesn't show?
Did you mortgage anything or run up lines of credit or credit cards to start this? (If yes, quit while you're a little behind)
Do you expect to use money from tryouts to tide you over until the season starts? (Then you are in even worse shape).
Do you expect to be subsidized for trips to Halifax? (Then you are just delusional.)
Good luck and welcome to the ABA.

All I can say is that we are excited and passionate to bring an ABA team to Boston. We look forward to the coming season. Of course, there will be bumps along the way and hopefully we will overcome them. Thanks for letting us know some of the obstacles. They will definitely help us.
