I've never heard of a "professional" baseball team refuse to come out of the clubhouse either (http://maconbaseball.com/news/?id=563)!
Looks like Backman's attitude is rubbing off on his players too, and that's just sad...
In all of the games I've seen this year, most of the officiating has been ok. Sure, they've made some glaring mistakes, some strange strike zones, but you can say that about some MLB umps too!
You just don't refuse to play the game.

The Macon Music came away with a victory in a game that ended in strange fashion Friday night at Luther Williams Field.
The 12-2 win ended in the seventh inning when the South Georgia Peanuts refused to return to the field after a bench-clearing brawl had both teams sent to their dugouts by the umpires.
The Music stretched their lead to 10 when Music outfielder Casey Garrison hit a single on a 3-0 count.
Peanuts manager Wally Backman had already been thrown out of the game in the second inning, so the Peanuts already seemed a little flustered.
The Garrison single apparently was the final straw as the next batter, Carlos Arroyo, was beaned after nearly being hit with the two previous pitches.
Garrison said he heard Peanuts pitching coach Buddy York tell the pitcher to hit Arroyo because Garrison swung at the 3-0 pitch.
"I really don't like to play these guys." Garrison said. "Every time they lose, it's like they just can't take it."
The game was pretty much out of reach for the Peanuts from the start. The Music started strong with a three-run home run off the bat of Ismael Castro in the first inning.
In the second inning, Music first baseman Scott Robinson added to the lead by driving in two of his game-high five RBI. The two-run home run gave Robinson five for the season and raised his RBI total to 41.
The Music got another good start out of pitcher Ross Stout, who went five innings. Stout (7-3) entered the game as one of the elite pitchers in the league with a 2.29 ERA and 61 strikeouts to just 16 walks. Stout had six strikeouts and allowed one earned run.
The Music can complete the three-game sweep with a win in today's game at 7:05 p.m.

OK. I can see Wally Backman getting thrown out as that is just what he does. Now they want to throw at a batter because the previous batter swung at a 3-0 pitch and got a hit??? Come on!
When you get a big lead, you do call off the dogs a little, such as not stealing bases and not taking the extra base on a hit and just going from base to base, nothing aggressive. But hitting is hitting. You never see anyone give up an at bat, no matter what the score is.
Wally Backman is a NUT!!! (no pun intended:rolleyes: )
And his staff and team are getting just like him...what an example they make! Geesh!

The official Whaa-nuts media release says the game was forfeited because "They didn't have enough players to complete the game".
What with TWO players ejected!!
I'm sorry, that's just a pathetic excuse from a team that threw a temper tantrum because they were'nt getting their own way.
Absolutely Ridiculous.

The Peanuts look like sore losers when they quit in the middle of a game.
Of course they had plenty of players. The game just didn't go the way they wanted it to.If they were short on position players thy could have stuck a pitcher somewhere.Any pitcher would love a chance to play in the field for a couple of innings in a game that was already decided.
It does make the Peach Series even more of a rivalry!

The saddest thing of all is that Backman is creating a bunch of "mini-me's" in Albany. Now his coaches are pitching the same tantrums. His players are seeing by example that this is the "proper" way to act at a baseball game. Like spoiled children who don't get their way - they think that they are the best team in the league and, by Golly, they should have every call go their way. They just can't take it when ANYONE beats them. Wally's other tantrums have occured when "lowly" Anderson beat them.
I feel sorry for the parents in Albany. Their kids go to the game and think that if they don't get their way it is O.K. to pitch a tantrum. "Well that's what WALLY does!" - It must be O.K. because my "heroes" behave this way...
I've got news for you Wally. If your team is getting more and more "bad" calls, it is a result of the situation that YOU and YOU ALONE created!
I want to be at the game when your head finally explodes!
GO MUSIC!

The actual scuttlebut is that the home plate ump told the stand-in coach of the Peanuts that as soon as the game resumed he was going to eject 5 more Peanut players from the game because of the scuffle -- this is why they would not have been able to field a team for the rest of the game. Come on now, who is really the sore loser -- the Peanuts had beat the Music in the last few games before the aforementioned game, and when they were winning, basically rubbed their noses in it throughout the game. This is a fine example as well, I tell you, in fact, wasn't it Phil Plantier that was ejected at the First Game they lost against the Peanuts?

Welcome Nuck! :)
I like your username by the way...
I hope you hang around for a while and get in some more of the discussions on this forum.
I'm JoesFan, and I REALLY don't like Wally Backman's behavior ;)

It's nothing we haven't seen before in the majors, but from what I heard, he was ejected before he even got up to the ump -- must've been expecting it after his last call. Of course, as you can tell by my defense, I am a Nuts fan -- I like the Joes too.

Welcome Nuck (I am going to have to be VERY VERY careful when typing your name:rolleyes: )
I can see by your post that you are NOT Wally Backman! LOL!
The Music did lose 2 out of 3 down in Albany, but lead the season series. I don't know, maybe some of this is to generate a "rivalry" atmosphere and generate more ticket sales (how do the Joes vs. Foxhounds work out?).
But, none the less, the Peanuts take on the personality of being whiners when they do not win and I blame Backman for that.....his personality is out of control...of course, they said that about Billy Martin too.
But either way, I welcome you and your posts!

Hey look! our very first Peanut! :p Welcome Nuck, hope you stick around!
I just get the feeling that Backman is almost beyond control of The League. He seems to continue no matter what punishment they hand down. He sure can coach up a team, and Music Manager Phil Plantier has publicly stated that he's jealous of his ability to move players into affiliated ball.
However, some of his well-cataloged incidents aren't conducive to a family-oriented League like this one, (Cussing loudly at a "Day-care" game???). Not to mention that several players and former MLB players have said that no one can remember even hearing of a professional team refusing to take the field.
But he's good for publicity, so they'll probably keep him around as long as they possibly can, but remember "There's no right way to do the wrong thing".;)

Hey I replied to you but in the wrong forum -- I submitted my reply in the forum about the punishments handed down. What a goof!
