Found out today that Salina, Kansas will have an indoor football team in 2005. The team will be called the Scarecrows.
I don't know which league as of yet but it do sound interesting.

Well now that's cool.. I'm glad to hear it..

Hmm... Makes me wonder which league though...

Hopefully the 2005 possibly homeless Wichita Stealth aren't that team..
An AF2 team in Salina isn't realistic by many factors..

So... That leaves (as far as known leagues) the NIFL, IFL, and APFL..

I doubt the IFL would be expanding to Salina..
And as much as I want to see the APFL turn into something..
Is Salina even big enough for the NIFL?

Interesting...
Did you get this info from the newspaper??

Thanks

Well I emailed the folks in the sports department at the Salina (I think Journal) newspaper..

They were not aware as of yet of anything..

And actually wondered where I had heard the rumor..

Oh well..

Time will tell

Heres to hoping for indoor football in Salina, Kansas in 2005

Bicentennial center can't hold an official size hockey rink, so I don't see this happening. Not to mention that I have heard nothing of them being considered by any league for admission for 2005.

But, good luck to them.

Field will be a little short in the end zones but it will work. I read somewhere on this board that one of the Indiana teams in the NIFL has a short field.

The Scarecrows coming back to Kansas is kind of deceiving since the "other" Scarecrow team was a hockey team.

We must consider the source here. This Spider guy was an APFL supporter, then a basher.

He talked about supporting Mud football.

And he has failed several times to bring indoor football to Arkansas and failed at a feable attempt at 6 man football.

I would'nt hold my breath on this one.

I know some people who aren't holding their breath at all on this one. I know I'm not!

I was just using that as a figure of speech.
Anyway, things are happening with this and details will be made public soon.

Wouldn't count chickens before they're hatched. Especially since this team doesn't have an acceptable building to play in or a league affiliation. The later of which would be the most important. If you don't have a league contract, then the rest doesn't matter.

Tater and others who have questions,
There are two league being considered- the APFL and the NIFL.
The arena in Salina can accomadate indoor football.
I am not counting chickens here just checking out the hen houses.

The only thing we can count on is if this Spider guy from Arkansas has anything to do with it, it will never happen.

Funny, he bashes the APFL then states a new team is considering it. hmmmm

Don't see the APFL taking them personally.......

You're exactly right! Time WILL tell and when it does, if I'm wrong, I'll come on and admit I'm wrong. Will you do the same if you're wrong???

Guys... Gals... geez....

Obviously someone in here doesn't trust what spider has to say.. So be it..

But don't be negative for the sake of being negative.. That puts us at the level of politicians.. lol

I hope an indoor football franchise does open up in Salina..

And at the risk of being labeled anti-APFL (no rose colored glasses here) I think the APFL would take an actual Salina franchise in a heartbeat.. Could it be any worse than Colorado or Wisconsin?

One other past "rumor" did pop into my head though..
I thought I recalled rumblings of a "Kansas" indoor football league.. Probably like the Nebraska league.. not the caliber of the Koyotes or NIFL etc etc... Maybe Salina is the first of many/a few Kansas towns that will field teams..

Who knows..
I certainly don't... Any comments would be guesses..

Hmmm Seems as if I said something to this fact and you jumped on me about it.

Some day you'll learn to trust most of the stuff I have to say. I don't see the APFL jumping on this situation unless the owners had all of their i's dotted and their o's connected.

I'm not saying that I don't want to see Salina succeed. I'm a football fan in general and I'd love to see it succeed in all levels.

Hey. I was just searching for an old topic and stumbled upon this one. What happened to the Selina team?

Dang, this topic is a year old.

I wonder if Spider is willing to come on and admit that he/she was wrong???? :D

I've been to the Bicentennial Center many a time. Unless you wanted to play on about a 30 yard field with five-yard endzones, you would have to knock out walls on each end of the building to fit something in.
This is a spring league. If you put dasher boards at Salina Stadium or Smisor Stadium (at Kansas Wesleyan), you could play football in Salina. The town has a population of 46,000. Saline County is 53,000. The surrounding counties are pretty small, so you wouldn't have much of a base to draw on.
Too bad there isn't a building in Manhattan or Junction City that would work (Bramlage Coliseum is in the same boat as the Bicentennial Center). Then you might have a market big enough to support it.
