Anyone heard about this league? Any thoughts about it. The ideology of the league seems strong - of course it always does. Everything looks good on paper - it's the implementation that matters. I know this is the ABA site - I just wanted to get some opinion on this from all of you!

I found this on the general basketball forum on OSC. I think Magician knows something about it.

Sounds a little ABA like - cheap license fee. Interesting, thoughh. If it is implemented right and they have all the teams they proclaim, it should do well.

the website is a little strange. It needs work to say the least, but...I don't know. Just trying to get input from anyone else who may know about this league. It was around it 2001-2002 or something like that.

I rec'd your phone message ... sorry for the delay.
I'll give you a ring and we'll chat!
You are pretty intense my friend ...
Don't worry eh, you hold all the ACES.
You will not have to worry about folding ... unlike some Orlando ABA team we might know :infun:

The GBA was started by Moose Lewis.
He owned/owns? a sports card memorabilia store in the Atlanta area.
It was really, really bad.
He originally was going to give players bonuses for having Afros and wearing converse chuck taylors.
They played with rubber balls, in high school gyms...like a grand total of 5 games per team roughly. The bills came in, the league cancelled it's season to regroup.
The only good thing about the league was the ridiculous team names which were great.
Other than that, it was a joke.
Run.

Yeah, the Augusta Missing Links, Tri-State Zombies, Kissimmee Tango, Hickory Nutz, Macon Bacon, and Gotham City Crusaders are great names. Some other team logos were stolen from older teams (Arkansas Scorpions, Fort Worth Fury-were Fort Wayne in reality, Kentucky ProCats, Carolina Thunder, Oklahoma Drillers-were Calgary actually, Joliet Jackals-were Jacksonville, Mississippi HounDawgs-were Memphis, San Diego Diablos-were Tijuana, Tampa Bay ThunderDawgs, Cincinnati BallHawgs-were Oklahoma City, West Virginia Hardhats-were Pittsburgh, Jacksonville Swarm-were St. Louis)
I don't see this league making it...

the league didn't make it; it was pretty much stillborn from the get-go
all they did was post a bunch of (defunct) team names on a website
no real business plan, direction or organization
makes the ABA look like a well-run league by comparison...

Anyone think the NWPBL league has any shot to get off the ground?

some of the original teams are staying but many logos are temporary as we are bringing on a new graphic designer. some names may change as we get new owners. this is only to show markets. we are looking for a webmaster.
we have just finished negotiating with the new chicago owner and he will be announced.
