Apparently, the semi-pro basketball well is not dried up in Rome.
On Saturday, the American Basketball Association announced that it will add a third Georgia team in Rome to its 2007-08 line-up when play begins in November.
“After struggling to find the right ownership group for the region, and in a surprise move, JAM Entertainment, Inc., made the decision to place a team in Rome, Georgia this season,” ABA CEO Joe Newman said in an ABA release.
“We’re coming and we’re excited,” said JAM Entertainment owner Tony Rodriguez. “We’re investing in what will become a Georgia company.”
Rodriguez, whose company also owns a new ABA franchise in Rochester, Minn., said that more details on the new Rome team will be made in the coming weeks.
The just-announced franchise will be named the Rome Legions.

But... didn't Joe say there would be no new teams added after the league meetings?
Or is this not a "new team" in that sense?

I was thinking Joe visiting Rome would be compared to "The Devil Went Down To Georgia"
Joe Newman went down to Georgia
He was looking for 10 grand of cash
"That's 10 grand, with a wave of my hand"
He didn't care who on OSC would bash

Rodriguez also dismissed a report that the team would be folding and that the team’s coach, Larry Lessett, and general manager Chris Coates were fired. Both men, Rodriguez pointed out, are part owners of the team.
“Technically they are still a part of the team,” he said of the status of Lessett and Coates, “but basically there’s no job to fill because we’re not playing this year.”
Rodriguez said that the organization would rekindle its effort to create a more solid foundation in January of 2008.
NO JOBS TO FILL ... ???
REKINDLE THE EFFORT in Jan '08 ???
Are you kidding me ...
YOU should be WORKING WORKING WORKING ... RIGHT NOW for 2008-2009!
This is just another reason why the ABA does not need have a presence in the Southeast.
