Yes.
Because enough is enough of this one. More power to those guys trying to make minor league basketball better in a few other select leagues.
Good ABA teams, let's get together and make a better one run by the owners.

Good luck guys. Lets give Joe his due. In scrounging up about 80 deadbeat franchises' he actually has managed to acquire some good teams. Its a pity too. If he was a little more discerning (ok, a lot more discerning) he would be able to have a great league.
There are more strong franchises' in the ABA than in the USBL, WBA, GBA and IBL combined. Problem is they are in this petrie dish of swill franchises who basically water down the genepool.
If Joe was simply a little less greedy on the front end and more checks and balances, he could build a quality league. He is all about the initial sell. Anything after that, customer service, quality control etc is someone elses ballgame. Joe is the initial point guy.
Good luck to the strong ABA teams.

You're probably right,
the ABA is such a continuing downard spiral of financial hardship, lost money, broken promises', failed teams, no show games, bad leadership, crummy owners, awful PR, a tired CEO, defuct teams, underpaid players..
I mean, the list, the list just .........................................goes on and on and on and and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and onand on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and

Yeah but unlike you I don't believe everything I read on the internet, because any idiot can put it there. This forum proves that.
And I've witnessed the ABA work first hand so I've yet to experience the joke aspect of it.

Its about the local market. In the minor leagues, your fans don't even have to know the name of the ceo, or anything that the league office does for that matter. Its about being successful within the local market, the league is barely a factor, wake up.

yes but fans will want to know, when they paid for 18 home games and they only get to see 10, or they want to know what happened to the 2 teams in their division that folded, or they would want to know why the other team only showed up with 6 guys and they are wearing jerseys and shorts that dont match, people will want to know why a teams drop out of the playoffs, top seeds too dropping out!
i agree though if you do things the right way the league might not be a factor, when you play all 36 games, when everything looks professional, when people are happy, and thats not easy, dont get me wrong there are good franchises out there, but there have been more bad than good :(

and yes, I worked for an ABA team for a season; a season where we paid all of our bills on time, and played every game our opponents allowed us to play
which leads to your point about it being 'about the local market' - a valid one, IF you can guarantee that you will be able to present to your local market the games and opponents you advertise. When they don't show up, and you are forced to find another ABA team at 2:00 in the afternoon, or find a group of local random guys to play, or - worse - cancel the game, your credibility is shot. Nobody is going to invest in season tickets when there is no guarantee that they will get what they are paying for.
The best run franchise is still at the mercy of the lower-echelon teams that fail to meet their obligations. And when those top teams are forced to cover the costs of a team just to host them, the money dries up quickly...
Again, which team have you had experience with in the ABA?

There are a few very good, solid teams in the ABA, but they are becoming fewer and farther between as many have defected to other leagues.
The problem is that the ABA can only be as strong as its weakest links.
We now have more weak links than ever. The most solid local markets are compromised by these weak teams who don't meet their obligations. You all know and have lived the stories as have we. End result: everybody loses.
There must be a better way. A 20 - 25 team ABA (I'll let others choose who those may be) could be a strong ABA, but there is no sign of that type of change.
You journalists on the forum, why don't you make contact with the owners (you know the legit ones) and ask them detailed questions of what they go through. Be specific. Ask about teams that don't show. Ask about last minute away games they have taken and funded. Ask them what they spend. Ask them what they make. Ask them what it would take to be successful. Ask them about promises made. These guys will talk to you. Please tell this story. A few have tried to write about it, but not really on a national level with input from various teams, and not with the detail it deserves.
This doesn't need to be a vendetta against anyone as some posters want to make it. The story and the facts just need to be told. There is a book here. Who wants to write it? There is enough drama to be a best seller.

I have talked to many of the good owners that were part or are part of the ABA. All of them have given me the feedback of things are bad or things really really need to change this year or i am heading out. I talked to Alex Wolf once and to him everything in the ABA seems to be fine and dandy which is something that I stood quiet about because I was not going to get into an arguement with him. He may know something that I don't know but the rest of the consensus is saying its horrible and or it needs severe change.
In pro sports there is no utopia.

Alex is self serving... his integrity is shot. he can restore it by quitting SI.
Again if this was any other league Alex would have to write what is going on but since he is JoJo's buddy he ignores things a jr. writer would have written about from day one.
Being a nice guy and having integrity are two different things
I cant wait to see what Alex writes when the ABA goes down,.....
How shocked he will be...he had no idea.
Alex you left Doyle out in the cold when you could have helped save this rec league from Joe....Shame on you

More to be developed, but the idea and infrastructure are coming together. We can be both an initial safety net for the woes of present and an avenue to make minor league ball better.
Could an online sports forum actually make a difference? Well, this one did because it inspired the DBA to be created. I think those with good ideas here can hop in, spread the word, and make this thing happen on a bigger, better scale.
Many questions I'm sure, but we're going to be looking for answers from some of you.
