Well enough said about the league and how everyone feels about it, how about some sports for a change. We have at least 8 teams in our division right now and I only see 1 team to beat in our division and thats Texas Tycoons. Any takes on that, and if you have any more information on the other teams please let me know. Texas, Houston, Arkansas, West Texas, Reynosa, MX, Monterey, MX, Mississippi and RGV. Some may say that I was wrong for picking up Sam Smith as our head coach since he coached for Mississippi last season but I mean its a business and they made their decision on who they wanted to run their team. Im good friends with Mother Williams and she helped me out a great deal while my wife was real ill last season and I hope this doesnt tarnish our friendship. My head coaching position was real important to me this year and I think we made a good move on getting Sam Smith here in Houston. So guys let me know whatsup and what you think of our division.

Larry make sure all your boys have passports because on January 8th to get into mexico and to get out of mexico you must have a valid passport. also the mexican teams have to have passports too. besides that to me its a two team race. the takers and the tycoons

Question one:

When is Reynosa going to be announced?

Thanks Standard, thr tryout that we are having will be very important as well and we have turned down some players based on there resumes they have sent to us. I have a college coach on our scouting team and he is doing the due dilligence on their resumes to make that they are giving us the right information.

I dont know concerning Reynosa though, I heard through one of my ABA contacts that they possibly could be playing but really havent confirmed. I just listed them to see if I could find out more information on them.

I wouldn't count in Reynosa. Typically, south of the border teams have not done well at all.

I tend to agree considering what happened to us at the border last year in all. I didnt make the trip but I heard it was a disaster and really didnt care for going back down to Monterey but we made it the second time around. I had talks to RGV at the meeting and they reassured that there want be anymore problems because they have someone that can assist us on getting across the border. Thats the only thing I am concerned about but other than that its a fun place to play ball because the fans are so hungry for good ball down there. The ABA is a perfect fit because of the fast pace games but we will see and hope something gets resolved.

Larry,

The only help you need getting across the border are valid passports. If everyone on your team has a passport, then you don't have a problem. If they don't, then you have a major problem.

Where they try to get you is the vehicle registration and some other crazy fee. These 2 fees are right under 100 bucks but no one on our bus spoke spanish so they tried to tax us 2000 and my coach said hell naaaw!!!!!!!! The ABA official gave us heads up on the fees and everything and the Waco team did a well, so we knew how much the fees were suppose to be. They just tried to pull a fast one and we werent having that. The same thing happened to Texas Tycoons but there coach was from that area or worked in the area before and he told them to kiss.........well you know. This was our first time going down period, so the following time we just took the busline and it was alot better. But yes you do need help at the border since 9/11 when you are carrying more than 10 people. Thats not what I think but what I know.

The border agents didn't speak English? Considering border agents are dealing with quite a few American citizens going into the country, I find that very hard to believe.

It isn't just carrying more than ten people, it is the fact that as of January 8th, each and every individual going into the country NEEDS A PASSPORT!!! This is the law, and regardless if you are going by private car, bus, or walking, the requirement is still in place. If the team in Mexico does play, I would make sure well before the season starts that all of your personnel has a passport.

Well look at the schedule when we played in Monterey after the January 8th date and I went on that trip and still dont have a passport yet. I understand what you are saying but its not like that in some cases. I know about the January 8th deal, we were getting everyone done and had to fix some child support issues but we got it done and we still traveled but I didnt have a passport for that trip and we made it. Been there done that.

I know this is off topic, but I was looking at pictures in your myspace, and im just wondering what was your average attendence last season?

And I wouldnt count on the ABA giving you information about border crossing, you could prolly find it quicker and more informational some where else and from some one else lol

Larry, I'm beginning to think that you don't speak English. It's hard to get through the multitude of grammatical errors in your posts. You're a team owner in a league with international teams and you don't understand the new passport law going into effect in 2008? WOW!!!!

I don't give a damn what the ABA office told you. THEY ARE WRONG!!! Or, what they told you was for last year. Open up your eyes and ears, dude.

Actually the law in Mexico hasn't changed. Where you need the passport is coming back to the U.S. (Otherwise you could have the first case of American citizens trying to sneak back across the border. ... Go rent Cheech Marin's "Born in East LA.")

How did this turn around on me and this was last season issues that we had at the border. Like I stated earlier, we had a sit down talk with RVG and we are going to handle it. The question was why do we need help or assistance and I replied that we had a problem last season. We resolved the passport issue this last season because thats what the league told us to do. I was the only one without a passport and I still got through.

Attendance last year was around 200-300, the first thing I will admit is I should have waited until this year to start because when I purchased the team I didnt have enough time to properly market but that was on me and the decision that I made. This season we are excited and we are taking advantage of the offseason.

And gramatical errors, man please

You dont make mistakes while typing bro, man!!!!!!!!! I mean that has nothing to do with what we are talking about here. And as for the passport issue, we resolved it last season and so the only ones we will have to address will be the new players coming in.

I asked you guys how did the division look this season as of competition and you are more worried a last season issue that we already addressed. Are you guys just trying to pick out reason to bash me or something, DAMN!!!!!!!

Can we all just get along, I just wanted to talk sports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell instead I am being asked about something I havent had asked since 91.

I believe the same passport restrictions for Mexico are also going into effect for Cananda.

This effects the entire North East so teams dont wait till the last second.

Okay....Cglue...Everyone....

Read this:

This is what people are trying to tell you about NEW rules about travel into Mexico. I don't think people are trying to down you, quite the opposite, they are trying to inform you of impending changes to the way we will have to cross the border...According to the above article, it may still be up in the air.

Okay, that being said...

I guess Texas would be the team to beat in your division as they actually played in the WBA this summer and will presumably have the same team this year.
In reality however, no one will have any ideas as to who or what team will be the team to beat until rosters are finalized, and posted somewhere where people can evaluate them.

Cglue, to your knowledge, will Santa Fe and Gallup be playing this year?

This kind of response isn't necessary. In spite of what you might think about his association with the ABA, Larry has been a stand-up guy here, willing to answer questions and address concerns. You may not like or agree with the answers, but we don't have to belittle anyone. Fells and skippy both showed better ways of making the point about passports.

All I have to say is this: http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/regional/regional_1174.html
Go to that link and please make sure you read the Section
Returning to the United States – Caution!

Keep listening to that old fart you will end up like Cheech in Born in East LA looking for a way to get back home lol.

PLEASE EVERYONE LISTEN TO ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE ISSUE WITH PASSPORTS WAS LAST SEASON, NOT NOW. WE ARE TAKING FURTHER STEPS TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS SMOOTH THIS TIME AROUND. I AGAIN, I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH NO PASSPORT LAST YEAR!!!!!!

WHAT THE LEAGUE DID WAS INFORM US OF THE CHANGE AND I RESPECT THAT VERY MUCH.

We handled the Summer League issue but on a higher note Im excited to see how our division will turn out. It seems like RGV is very busy this offseason and hope all is well in that McAllen. My concern still remains with Monterey, if anyone has any feed back on them please let us know something.

I have seen elsewhere that some divisions are meeting among themselves to finalize schedules and prepare for the upcoming season.

I assume, based on your comments, that you division has not done so? Do you think you will, or will you have Brad or the ABA office do the final planning for you?

And, do you know of any contingency plans in place at the league level to ensure that all games are played as scheduled (travel bonds, etc.)?
