With the movie coming out next week, I have found out that there will be a professional 6-8 team league launched later this year.
Sources tell me that the league will barnstorm the country with games and then play a season this winter.
Don't know what the league will be called or where it will set up but it sounds pretty coool.

I am thinking of starting up a Dodgeball World Cup for 2005 in the Western North Carolina area. I even set up a website to get started...

There will be a Dodgeball World Cup in 2005. I am almost certain to have the Carver Center in Black Mountain as a backup, however, I am getting info on a couple of places that might be useful.

Well done! That has absolutely made my day.
I would pay to see a Dodgeball match (no more than $12 a ticket, with at least one beer included) as long as there were teams like 'The Purple Vipers' and/or at least one team wearing spandex, leather, chrome or some combination thereof.

Had a meeting on Monday with a group that MIGHT get me a place rent free. I would have to move the date up to April but I could pull it off. However, I also may not have as large of prize fund as I wanted. It's a trade off to get the venue I didn't expect to be available. Also, I may only have a 5 hour block, so I may go with 12 or even 8 teams. Getting teams won't be a problem, what I want are teams to come in from everywhere, hence the "Dodgeball World Cup."
Again, the website is www.dodgeballworldcup.com

Is this concept already dead in the water. I was in hopes it would catch fire because of the movie.

No, getting the facility is just taking a little bit of red tape. The people in charge of it is all for it but they have some higher-ups that have to approve it. I don't want to go half-reared and make big announcements unless I get the contract. That way if it doesn't go, I can save face and I can go back to my plans to have it at a high school gym in July 2005.

I had first thought about buying a team in one of those "new" startup indoor football leagues but I rented the Dodgeball movie last nite and now I'm thinking why own one indoor football team when I can own and operate a six team professional dodgeball league for about half the money.
So that's what I'm going to do. I will form six teams in small markets and play in the same time frame as indoor football. Players will be played to pay and I will work out a small tv contract with local cable companies.
The teams will play in field houses rather than arenas.
I will build a website, promote the teams and the league in our region of the country, develop sponsorship packages and go after it.
Dodgeball is a fun and an exciting sport and I think it will work at a professional level.

While I'm waiting on word about the location...
I've been named the NC Commissioner for the International Dodgeball Federation. I've been getting contacts on new leagues already.
Praise to me...

Hey what's up, I'm new here!
I think it's great that you guys are excited about professional dodgeball.
I've been working to put together a professional league in the Orlando area, for over a year now.
I'm working to get a warhouse to renovate into a fieldhouse/arena.
I'd love to hear ideas or questions about the possiblity of porfessional dodgeball in many areas of the country
