The CFL uses the same sort of NCAA tiebreaker except if the score is still tied after 2 iterations (overtimes), the game ends officially as a tie. That's bs. You should have heard the announcers defend their league by saying "we would be here all night".

Keep playing iterations until we have a winner. CFL football isn't that abusive on the players' bodies like the American version.

Sissies.

I'm surprised they downgraded the overtime to 2 possessions each. I thought it was 5 possessions each. The last tie I recall which was many, many years ago was Stamps/Riders and it went to 5 possessions each.

Frankly, the Canadian game is just as violent as the NFL. You have to remember, if this is your first exposure to the game, it is Week 1. The CFL only has two pre-season games to get things in order. If you want to compare this to the NFL, think of this week as Week 3 of the pre-season. Wait until the middle of July and see if you still think the game is the same.

If you still think the NFL is rougher, check out this hit from the Riders/Argos game a year ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew0MTJFSq9Q (The video was taken with a cam off someone's tv so the quality is bad.) In that particular incident Spurgeon Wynn was out for 30 minutes and taken out in an ambulance. This was the same game where Ricky Williams broke his arm. I haven't seen a hit like that in the NFL since they decided QBs were china dolls and couldn't be touched. It was even more horrific to see the hit in person (as I went to the game).

You'll also find amazing plays in the CFL, that you rarely see in the NFL. Missed field goals being returned for TDs are the norm in the CFL. The single is a good rule, at times, but it does allow for some chincy wins. Last season in the CIS the Regina Rams punted the ball through the end zone with one second left on the clock to beat the Saskatchewan Huskies by one point. So it does leave some games with an anti-climactic feel.

You're a critic of the Canadian game too. That is a good thing to be a constructive critic. By the way, I'm not suggesting you stop watching the CFL or the CIS game.

I am a critic of the Canadian game. At least you're better than those on here who wish to see the CFL merge into some American league. But I also don't criticize things that don't need to be criticized or assume a country will invade another one over a website.

For the record, I'm not a first time viewer of CFL action. The last time I saw a game was on ESPN when ESPN first started back in the 1980s. I was a fan of Skip Walker and Coach George Brancato of the Ottawa Rough Riders until the CFL was dropped from ESPN's schedule programming.

Those issues I criticized needed to be said. You could not be more wrong. The CFL is a visual eyesore in that department.

Now concerning the invasion thing: You can't be serious. South Park is a potty mouth cartoon. You never seen South Park? You didn't see the humor in the comment? Do you even know who Terrance and Phillip are and what the main plot in that movie was all about?

Also, since we are on the subject of OT, what happens in the standings if one team wins in overtime? Does the winning team get two points with the losing team getting one point for an overtime loss? Could not find a description for that on the CFL site.

As for the aesthetics of the CFL field, you just have to accept its a Canadian thing. Take a look at any NHL game and you'll find logos on the ice, on the boards etc. If you watch a CHL game it gets far worse, even the goal posts carry ads. The reason nobody complains about it in Canada, is we're used to it. Its like watching baseball inside, it may seem weird at first but you get used to it quick.

I've seen South Park and I find it infantile and incredibly unfunny. Anyways, instead of turning this into a flame war, I'll leave it be.

As for the CFL OT rules, I don't believe they follow the NHL rule of giving 1 point for an OT Loss. I know in the CIS only Canada West gives out an OTL point, the rest of the conferences do not. So I assume, that is because the CFL does not either. Looking through the historical standings, I don't find a single team that's point total does not equal its wins times 2.

Ain't buyin' that. One person (you as a sample size of n=1) does not constitute an entire country's opinion on why an eyesore visual remains in this very entertaining CFL league. I bet it is more an issue of we just keep putting this down our priority list.

Is the multi-colored goalpost at Madison, Wisconsin an American thing or a Wisconsin thing? I think you get my point you are just reluctant to change things for its own sake of the status quo because the status quo has become comfortable to you personally.

A shiny neon yellow goalpost looks sharp. Large faintly yellow painted yardline numbers is bush league.

I should be on the CFL board of directors.

Skip the South Park potty mouth and stick with that All American Family Guy fart humor!

So CoS is a paint salesman with too much yellow in inventory.

What would he say if 10,000 Oregon fans were waving lemon-yellow pom-poms for an opposing team's kick?

Still, I do wonder if the ads for CHL and CFL games are really that effective. There are cases when less is more... I'm thinking Boise State football and four years of what they call "Big 4 sponsors" who pay extra for the privilege.

Canada is not the United States. Sometimes, Canadians seek to be different. One way they're different is, normally (not always), telling teams to stuff it when the teams ask for publically funded stadia and the like... which is why the teams feel the need to sprawl ads over everything. Of course, Europe isn't much different...

The CHL ads are too much in my opinion. Seeing ads all over the goalposts are way too much for my liking.

As for the CFL at times they can be effective, but at least here in Saskatchewan and in Toronto, they advertise products not sold Canadawide. So from a TV perspective they don't work, I'd love to buy a Pizza Pizza pie but they don't exist in Saskatchewan. Conversely, SaskEnergy doesn't exist outside of Saskatchewan. What the CFL teams should do is look at Australian and English rugby fields with the 3D looking ads. Every time I see a rugby game on TV, I always notice those ads.

The ads I hate though are the animated ones TSN inserts to advertise their First Down Line. In the Riders/Als game I noticed two or three different GMC Trucks driving on the screen, including one that appeared to tear up the field (animatronically though). Those are overdone, but if the excessive sponsorship keeps the CFL on TV and the league in existence than I am more than satisfied.

Speaking of animatronics... those rugby field ads are usually virtual. It's pretty easy to tell, BTW. No reason the CFL couldn't do that IMO.

Soccer: FIFA bans even virtual ads imposed on the field of play. With some leagues, you'll see virtual ads that look like the other signboards around the pitch just behind the "media line" drawn behind the goal. Just in case any of you wonder why those little signboards never stop the balls flying past them...

Those rugby ads are done very well then. I always thought they were actually on the field. I think some of them must be as I've seen them zoom in on a play on one of those ads and parts of the ads were visible on the field. Either way, I always thought they looked cool on tv and if I noticed them, most other fans would too.
