Actually, ESPN did mention the ABA several times. One analyst mentioned that he was playing on a Chinese team that got kicked out of the Chinese league and was playing in Los Angeles in the ABA. They did mention the ABA.

In addtion, I believe it was the GM for Seatle that when they showed his bio, it stated that he was the head coach for the Kansas City Knights in 2000. On the screen, it explicity mentioned that that job was in the ABA.

They mentioned ABA and when i saw all of their faces especially Fran Fraschilla he rolled his eyes and smirked. I was like damn they know this league is a farce. Only reason Yue got drafted is because hes a chinese national playing for a team that is really based in china. Sun Yue welcome to the promised land the land of no cancellations, flying on planes and enjoying a pro environment.

Good for him. He landed in a familiar place, having played near there for two years. He was also included in the draft media guide that they gave to us at the event. A glaring section of his page had an incomplete stat section from last season in the ABA. Blank areas include games started, field goals made, field goals attempted, free throws made, free throws attempted. Stat keeping must be improved and that is the individual team's responsibility.

Both the ABA team and the ABA dropped the ball.

If you know; as a league executive; that a player within your league is a possible NBA draft pick ... and you don't take responsibility to communicate with those team officials, players, agents, etc. to ensure that a professional player portfolio is up-to-date and available to release to the NBA when requested ... you are truly an amateur operation!

The ABA executives in Indiana don't get it?

They are not willing to do the work!

hmm I must have missed the whole thing on em with the ABA and what not, i only saw he got picked, well good luck to the kid

O and I did read on the NY Knicks website and a link to EBC at Rucker Park that Randy "White Chocolate" Gill is working out with the Wizards, hes played with the Maryland Nighthawks for the past 2 seasons, hes playing in the EBC at Ruckerm he also said hes playing in Venezuela too

Hes a good player and deserves a workout in the NBA

Hes a well known streetballer too

And the Nighthawks also proposed a trade to the Pacers last year when Artest was sitting out, they offered Gill, and Moten for Artest hhahaha

I hope that Gill gets a good look with the Wizards. He is a bit small and would have to lose that streetball mentality. With the NBDL an option, he may have a shot. I've seen him with Maryland a number of times and also with EBC at MSG. He does have nie touch from the o/s and has good range.

Of course, being drafted in the second round means that Sun Yue does NOT receive a guaranteed contract by the Lakers. It also means that Sun Yue could be drafted by a CBA team if the CBA so chose.

Boy would it be funny if Sun Yue was drafted by the Indiana Alley Cats. If that wouldn't give Crazy Joe a muscle spasm...

He could be signed to a guaranteed contract (even though there's no obligation to) for purely marketing reasons, but then moved to the D-League, too. Would play for the D-Fenders if he stays under the thumb of Dr. Buss.

I did see the bit about "kicked out of the Chinese league." So Aoshen was a renegade team looking for a home in the first place? How appropriate.

Of course, I also remember some commentary about the demands the Chinese Sports Federation apparently made upon the NBA about Xi Jianlian; they wanted him in a major market with a substantial Chinese population. Enter Milwaukee. How much will China deal with the NBA in the future?

According to the NBA Draft Media Guide, Beijing Aoshen was suspended by the Chinese Basketball Assosc. and the owner moved the team to LA to compete in the ABA. It does not give a reason for the suspension of the club.

Yue was originally an early entry candidate for the 2006 NBA Draft before withdrawing his name from consideration. He is also a member of the Chinese national Team.

From what I understand, Aoshen was suspended from the CBA for not allowing Yue to leave the team and play on the national team. I think the team is eligible to return to the CBA, but for whatever reason hasn't done so.

And while I'm on the subject, here we are a day after the draft and there is no news on either ABA Live or Our Sports Central about Sun Yue being drafted. The ABA finally has something good and noteworthy happen (possibly the most newsworthy thing to happen to this league in its history), and nobody is sending out a press release about it. Instead, it's the usual junk about a team changing its name or hiring an ex D-II assistant coach.

You're absolutely correct. I just put this together quickly and e-mailed it out:

Sun Yue Drafted By Lakers in Second Round

The Los Angeles Lakers selected 6-9 guard Sun Yue with the 40th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, which was held at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The 21 year-old Yue was the first of two second round picks by the Lakers, who also tabbed Spanish center Marc Gasol, the brother of Memphis Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol, at number 48.

Yue, a member of the Chinese National Team, averaged 13.5 points, 10.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game last season playing with the Beijing Aoshen Olympians of the American Basketball Association. He was also named to the 2007 All-ABA First Team.

The Chinese Basketball Association suspended the Beijing club in 2005 and their owner moved the team to Los Angeles to compete in the ABA. Yue was named to the Second Team All-ABA and made the ABA All-Star West squad in 2006. He also was originally an early entry for the 2006 NBA Draft before withdrawing his name from consideration.

In 2005, Yue participated in the Asian Championships in Doha. A year prior, he played for the Chinese Under-20 National Team.

Frankly, so what? Not about the article itself, but about the league waiting until Monday to post it. By then, the draft will be 4 days old and people will have stopped caring.

One of the multitude of things that the league has failed to do over the years is keep the website current on the weekend - especially with so many games played on thr weekend during the season.

I'm sure Paul can agree - it really isn't that tough to post an article or two on a Saturday or Sunday (I would push for game summaries and stats, but that horse is long dead). Heck, I used to post game summaries for the SkyCats on our site no later than the following morning after our games.

So, while it is nice that someone in the kitchen cabinet woke up long enough to realize they had a player drafted, they are still going to mismanage the announcement in their own peculiar way.

stupid of the ABA not to take advantage of publicity and a positive piece of news to come out of the league and they dont mention anything about it the day after it happens

see this is why the ABA is what it is today, to me it seems like no one does any work, in the office(joes basement) This is something you have to be proud of and make a big deal out of it, instead they talk more about coaches we've never heard of getting hired

wow ABA wow
