Another reminder to everyone to tone down the rhetoric. Most of us stay within the bounds, and I want to make sure that everyone does. Regardless of how poorly you believe someone has performed professionally, please remember that they are entitled to the respect you give any other human being. It's fine to point out what you believe are mistakes, it's okay to speculate, and its certainly alright to draw conclusions from the past. It is not permissible to make unsubstantiated allegations. Think about what your write before posting it, and make sure you can back up all your claims.
Profane comments will not be tolerated either. You should write for a PG audience as we have some children who visit. Chris and I can't read every post, so please PM one or both of us if you see any violations.

preeths is right.
Guys hear me out. If you call someone a crummy businessman who runs a crummy league thats one thing. But people on here are calling others thieves, scam artists and comparing them to Hitler. THis can only lead to disaster.
Lets do a for-instance:
1/ you get named in a defamation of character lawsuit.
ok so you do what?
a/ choose not to defend yourself?
b/ defend yourself in another state with a lawyer
ok so then what........
1/ you lose and have defamed someone
2/ you win but have legal costs
3/ you win and the case is "baseless" and are awarded court costs...
Guys think about number 3 closely, You are going to chase ___ _______ (insert plaintiff here) down ???? Let me know how that works out for you trying to recover costs. Seriously this thing is only gonna be a pain in the ____ if I'm right in my beliefs.
If you think I'm nuts then consider this. How hard would it be for someone who is very well acquainted with the US court system to hire some lawyer on a contingency basis (we don't win, you don't pay).
I don't like the state of minor league ball any more than you. But just cover yourselves and don't compare people to Hitler, or say they are running a bunko scam unless you have some resonability of truth. Also you aren't nerely as anonymous these days as you might think. Remember the most important league in this country isn't what you think its the CYA league. Cover Your A__

Even outside of that, what good does any of it do? You end up using harsher and harsher words about someone until unbiased observers look at you like you're the one who's nuts. You end up not convincing anyone and marginalizing yourself.
I want these boards to be a place where we can enjoy discussion, and that means having users with a wide variety of opinions. That doesn't mean you have to agree with them, but I don't want us to fall prey to the mentality that he who posts loudest and most often wins.
If you want to get a pointed message directly to someone, even someone you suspect checks out the boards, email them.

I agree. but if Joe wants to sue and words hurt him well
A. What people say is the truth about him which it is. (Note the hitler part was of how many people followed him. Same as Joe many people follow him and praise him and give him 10k.
B. he can sue but guess what its more of a hard time for him than for you since. You have more ammo than he can pull out since its his actions that have led to litigation.
C. Stay quiet and do a real deed and clean the mess up(never will happen)

It should be kept professional or at least mature. If someone choose to bash a person, league, team, etc. because they deserve it, then go for it. But it should be done in such a manner that it is not offensive or a personal attack.

I do not think Joe is the Evil One...Crazy, yes, but not evil.
Remember, Joe is the one who keeps saying we're evil...Let's not stoop to his level.

This is double talk. If you bash someone, it is offensive to that person. They are the one who is getting bashed. They will take offensive to it.
No, if there are facts backing your arguments, that is another matter.

Evil people tell others that they are evil. Joe is Evil. Joe goes around saying that someone of are terrorist or no morals or are garbage. He should look himself in the mirror because when you spew what others spew to you because you said it first and then you dont like it its because its the truth

You can bash someone without being offensive or baiting. If a poster feels in his or her opinion that a certain person has not done their job properly, then pointing that out with factual statements and an argument to show that they should have done something differently to benefit the whole, then go right ahead. There are plenty of ways to do that. A good example would be the posts by The Magician when he was listing things that every team and the league should be doing in the offseason.

We have a lawyer on the payroll and another lawyer as an adviser.
I brought this topic up out of curiosity more then anything else. It turns out the ABA could sue and the person(s) under the un-warranted personal attacks can also sue.
The person(s) would then have the option of going after the person making the attacks on the website or the website that the attacks are being posted on which in this case would be Our Sports Central, or they could go after both the person and the website.
If the judge in the case found probable cause and sided with the ABA or the person under attack the judge would most likely issue a supinea to Our Sports Central for the all of the records that pertain to the case.
Bottom line is when you post about someone’s hair style , integrity or make even more serious acquisitions such as calling them a thief or worse ect. , it all legally falls under defamation of character and you can very well be legally charged.
The lawyer also explained to me that the ABA actually has just as much grounds for a lawsuit as the person under attack if not more, because the CEO of the company's character directly correlates with the publicly traded company and any un-warranted comments against someone in high standing with the company would give the company grounds to sue and the judge would take this more serious then if it just had effected one person.
Bottom line is , if things are not cleaned up you might not only get yourself in trouble you could also get Our Sports Central shut down or the forums taken away by a Judge in a court of law.
I like being a poster on this forum , I like Paul who runs the site, we recently spoke on the telephone about the upcoming season. If you are not going to do it for yourself then at least step up to the plate and clean it up for Paul.

Guys, we do have to remember that this is Paul's business and how he puts food on his table. Personally, I don't think the ABA will go after the site as they have bigger fish to fry, but being on the safe side is the better way to go.
Corning, although we may not agree with you at times, I value your input on the board. It is good having someone from the league who is willing to state who they are, not hide, and speak their minds on the league.

I think more owners should stop hiding who read the boards and talk with us like James and Larry and a few others
I think owners can take things from this board, we are the fans, the critics and some of us on here can run a team ourselves and have great ideas and thoughts
And I think its great that owners come on here, id like to see more, i have alot of respect for these guys, and i think they deserve it!

Ever hear of Godwin's Law?
I used to have it ready with a word file... but I went to wikipedia this time.
"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."
"There is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress."
My personal feeling- invoking Hitler on a sports board indicates a lack of imagination. It's just not smart, nor applicable.
There are many instances of "cult of personality" that can be used to describe Joe Newman... but it seems to me that his ultimate failure would be that I doubt you'd see two digits of people who would actually drink the koolaid.
(Anyone for deep-sixing Jim Jones references while we're at it?)

none of you understand what i said. i said Hitler in regards of him having followers that praise his words and ways. i never called Joe Newman a Nazi nor a hitler in the sorts of him being the scum that man was and still is.
and when we speak about giving out the kool aid yes we do reference Jim Jones but Joe does in a form of gimme the 10k i will show you the world of fantasy.
Is Newman a nazi? heck no but i know what {Removed by admin} and should never speak of others until he can truly speak about himself.
